i think in the project window the asterix means that you have changed something since saving it last. If you hit save, the asterix will go away.

what codec are you using to export?

The jerking is probably because your hard drives aren’t fast enought to read a big file (ie uncompressed or animation codec).

Try using a codec that created a smaller file, then when you are happy with it, re-render it into your final output format.

  • probably one of the trapcode plugins (shine, 3D stroke etc). They do this when the plug-in isn’t registered.

how important is contrast ratio & brightness? I’ve foudn some good monitors with a low response time, but they differ in these specs. I also read that different companys use different scales to calculate their specs…so they are not very accurate to compare.

    Any further advice?

  • Thanks, i will check out that link. My plane is not flat, it curves around a bit. So rendering the front view will not work. Hopefully this link will put me in the right direction

thanks, I’ve got access to a cleaner, but not squeeze so I will see what it can do.

I’ve got small WMVs for WM9 and they look good, but I keep getting people replying that they can’t open it. I wouldn’t want a possible employer to not look at my work because they can’t be bothered updated their media player.

    Cheers for the help.

do you have some footage of film junk? like the header/tail of film? artbeats have some good ones or maybe you can google for some free stuff.

I’d go to about the last ten frames of my vision and animate some random Y values for position. So it seems the frame is getting thrown up and down. Then do a similar animation with the film junk. Play around with transfer modes and animate the opacity really quickly so that the transition from video to junk is good. Then maybe add some noise over the top to hide any dodgey bits.

maybe have a look through the archive. There is heaps of stuff on outputting and compression.

Yeah, you want it on best and full. Also make sure your interlacing matches up with your source and premiere settings. I think lower is the standard for DV, I’m using upper becuase that’s what my NLE prefers (not Premiere). Double check frame rate etc etc, then save it as a default.

I think what you need to do is check what compression you are using.

I use quicktime “animation codec”. It is lossless, and has smaller file size than uncompressed. I think you will find most people will agree. If however you are transporting the footage and need the files to be smaller maybe you can compress using something like DV.

I don’t think you actually have to shoot the TV. Just connect a TV with static into an anolgue input and capture it. This way you won’t have the worries of actually shooting the TV. and you will probably get the “best quality” static (if there is such a thing).

    then transfer modes etc etc
