Effect like a projector breaking down
Posted by Bill Clotz on June 9, 2005 at 12:42 amI need to do an effect like a video projector is breaking down or something while the video is playing. Does anyone know how to do something like that, or maybe know of any reference footage of something like that i can examine?

June 9, 2005 at 1:50 amdo you have some footage of film junk? like the header/tail of film? artbeats have some good ones or maybe you can google for some free stuff.
I’d go to about the last ten frames of my vision and animate some random Y values for position. So it seems the frame is getting thrown up and down. Then do a similar animation with the film junk. Play around with transfer modes and animate the opacity really quickly so that the transition from video to junk is good. Then maybe add some noise over the top to hide any dodgey bits.

Well,If what you want is a “film junk” effect, maybe I could give some other sugestion.
Some plugins suchas “Film damage”can supply you with such effect. But since you hope to avoid having to buy anything,You can create such effect handly.
1.adjust the Levels and Hue/Saturation.make your clip have less levels and be paler.
2.draw a secquence of damaged film which is make up for many some mussy lines and dots. You can create it with your AE or PS or Flash .This effect can be downloaded from many Flash website .Here is one of them:
https://www.flash8.net/fla/2664.htm
and this is the link to the source .fla file: https://file.flash8.net/2003up/2003/7/11/20037111749141758.fla
you can delete the numbers and get the film junk clip in Flash.
3.compose the two clips together in AE,adjust the effects.****************************

June 9, 2005 at 4:38 amAre you talking about when film gets stuck in the projector and melts? AE 6.5 Pro has CC Burn Film which can get you started.
