The AJA Gen 10 will allow you to gen black for SD, and Tri level for when you need HD and AES to ref any audio to tri level at the same time all for under $400.
    unbeatable, rock solid.

    Sorry to take so long
set the 1800 ref to Input video, cause you are running freerun from the Kona. or feed the Kona the same ref that the 1800 is getting
Make sure the deck is in 1080i 59.94 mode in system settings
eject your tape, menu item 13 turn on> set
check that sys is 59.94. if you change it you’ll need to shut down then power back on for the deck to reboot to 59.94.
make sure you are not in edit to tape and verify the presence of SDI input on the deck.
with the tape still ejected the deck should be in e to e and by pressing the display button on the 1800 you should see signal passing. If the deck is not in e to e press the record button to force e to e
If this is OK and the deck does not print or edit to tape you may have been in another mode on the deck when you striped. the stripe needs to match the format being recorded.
I assume from your settings that you are monitoring the 1080i signal via component on your monitor, and that you have signal there.

I prefer to export quicktime from the timeline, current settings then generate whatever else I need from that in compressor. Compressor set up with a quick cluster can kik out multiple formats much faster than timeline exports.

We use that deck on a daily basis with FCP and a Kona3 (as well as others, DS etc).
normally when you type in a number, while you are connected to the deck over 422, and the deck is in remote the number you type in may be modified slightly, as in type in 59:00:00 and if the tape is striped drop frame it will respond to the number with 59;00;02 which is the correct response. Is it possible that the tape is striped incorrectly and the communication with FCP and the deck is causing the number to change based on the code on the tape.
if you hit play on the tape what TC is it reporting?
you may have to roll into the tape a bit for the TC to be read. also make sure the TCR is set to auto so it’s reading both LTC and VITC
If the tape is correctly striped, you can control it, and it is reading the correct code in both shuttle and Jog you may need to trash your prefs.
use pref manager for FCP available here

Is the 422 device control set to Sony?
why tri-level for 1080i, it’s quite happy with black at 1080i. usually we stay ref to black for anything except 1080 23.98 Psf.
seems like some easy setup issue if VTR x has no problem and sounds like a com getting overrun

August 19, 2009 at 11:25 am in reply to: FCP EDL Software

Basically any text editor can handle this like notepad on PC or Text wrangler on a mac
It has to be straight text ie not generate a lot of control codes.
there used to be a dos based program called “easy lister” that worked really well and quantel had one that was really powerful but had a dongle.
I’ve been threatening to do something in filemaker pro but have been to busy to follow through.

We have been pulling EDL’s from FCP to Scratch without major issues, other than a tweak or two in the scratch editor usually where the ref movie was generated after the EDL was made or general funk in the project.
This might depend on the naming convention used for the Red files on injest to FCP, or what version of Scratch is being run.
There are issues with speed ramping in Scratch

August 6, 2009 at 12:39 pm in reply to: Offline/Online Frame Accuracy Issue

    Hello Matt
we have issues with HDV that TC is not repeatable.
We bump any HDV up to HDCam generate new code and move on. in your case thats a lot of expense.

Depends I guess on how much more time against what deadline in edit VS tape cost for reliable TC

Any offline/online workflows we work with esp SD from HD we cut with BITC in the letterbox generated by the machine playing the tape. No doubt as to what frame it is.
If BITC is in the letterbox a simple crop removes it for viewing purposes, If coming from HDCam 23.98 to 29.97 both TC windows are available ORG and PDT (pulldown TC)
