Anyone know of any basic software to take a FCP EDL as a text file and sort a reel summary or clip name summary for use in organizing RED Raw clip names and/or reel names into a usful data base for Assimilate Scratch conform. This would seem pretty simple as Avid can do this, but FCP does not.

Does Scratch have issues with a regular EDL output from FCP? I’ve been fine opening up an EDL with renamed clips and referencing the original RED files in Color 1.5, but we might be going with Scratch, so anything you find out from this would be very useful.

If someone could mail me the specs, i’ll be happy to create something that does this.
(and i’ll probably do it in less than a day)

How hard can it be, it’s just TC and Reel info, available in EDL, XML and Batch lists that FCP can provide.

(and no, i don’t work for free)

First off, FCP can sort an EDL by reel number. Simply choose “source” as the sort order (instead of “program”.

Second, you can open the EDL in Text Edit and modify it there.

I do have an ancient EDL app which splits the EDL into EDLs per reel.
Let me know if that makes sense for you-

We have been pulling EDL’s from FCP to Scratch without major issues, other than a tweak or two in the scratch editor usually where the ref movie was generated after the EDL was made or general funk in the project.
This might depend on the naming convention used for the Red files on injest to FCP, or what version of Scratch is being run.
There are issues with speed ramping in Scratch

Thanks for the input, all I am really looking for is a simple EDL app that I can use to generate a reel summary and/or clip name summary that is an aid to project organization of features shot on RED and off-lined in FCP for a Scratch finish. I have been doing this by hand using source sorted EDL’s out of FCP in the Scratch EDL Editor and am wanting to streamline the workflow

Basically any text editor can handle this like notepad on PC or Text wrangler on a mac
It has to be straight text ie not generate a lot of control codes.
there used to be a dos based program called “easy lister” that worked really well and quantel had one that was really powerful but had a dongle.
I’ve been threatening to do something in filemaker pro but have been to busy to follow through.
