we put our sync outputs and workstation ref inputs on a normalled video patchbay.
In our case workstations are normalled to BB and trilevel is available to be patched to whatever is required.
dBeta is going to want BB for ref or physically move the “outref” switch to input video. this must be moved back to ref for playback, dubs, injest etc.Doug Beal

select Zoom letterbox in the control panel for upconvert, select what you want to end up with in fcp easy setup, select the format you are coming from in the secondary format in the Kona control Panel.
Capture the footage. it will be a little softer than if the SD footage was anamorphicDoug Beal

August 1, 2012 at 9:33 pm in reply to: FCP 7 dropping frames and I think I’ve tried almost everythingI’ve had issues with hitachi drives in a couple of different raid boxes of the 4 drive ilk.
try the AJA test switch to the graph mode
see if you see downward spikes on the data rate.
In my case I only had issues editing to tape where the tolerance is much tighter.
after locating WD RE4 drives and dropping them in the issues went away. Black caviars are very similar to RE4’s except the caviars are not TLER enabled
I have not bought hitachi drives since. I think they cycle to achieve a lower power demand and that “breathing” is what brings up the dropped frame warnings. I was unable to layout a DVCPro50 file for longer than a few minutes on an ESATA 6TB raid5 array with only the DVCPro50 file on it. Switching drives made it usableDoug Beal

We do that with a lot of 23.98 material. It works fine for both DVD and BluRay.
I suspect there’s a bit of difference however getting to 25 fps as almost all of what we do is NTSC and 23.98 is an NTSC variant, hopefully you’ll post a follow up as far as what level of success you’ve encounteredDoug Beal

HDCam Dbeta BSP DVCProHD all day everyday, bump 3/4 and D2 to more modern formats haven’t touched a 1″ in years since we got rid of the 1100As and the 3100
I love tape!!!
I get files that couldn’t go to tape.. they’re illegal gamut.. illegal audio levels.. mixed cadences and framerates..If folks who bring me those files brought me a tape I could put it in a machine and play it..The files need to be repaired first before they hit tape..sometimes I have to hit tape in order to provide files

In the old days we’d lay off the fill and the matte as two separate layoffs that could be later injested and keyed. Unless you have an HDCamSR 4444 will not be possible in one pass.

Hello Andy
I have no info about the question you are asking but perhaps I could share our evolving metering concerns in North America. More programs will require a different approach than in the past as the calm act begins to be implemented. What we are needing more of now is an LKFS measurement or “perceived” volume. Some TOS requirements are mandating + or – 2 db LKFS centered on -24 LKFS.
I have now idea if these will begin to affect your world but here is the temporary solution for us until we determine house wide solutions.

May 7, 2012 at 5:38 pm in reply to: FCP 720P Layback to HDCAM SR not ending on the right field, any suggestions?Sounds like both devices are not locked to the same reference. There should not be different fields in P.
The single field /full frame option is for display on a paused frame and should be on frame for the most part. allows you to see interfield motion when parked on a frame, If you have a monitor that will display both fields eg when a 23.98 sequence has been converted to 29.97 some edits will occur on field2 of the converted footage
