Is this SCC file from a standard def DVD project?
If so it does need to be reformatted for 708 captions
we still do SD CC using a QT from CPC software so called black file but have not gone to FCP7 yet on a workstation so this approach works on the DS and FCP stations and the HD (708) side via Matrox MXO2 on another FCP stationDoug Beal

make sure TCR lower right main display on panel is set to Auto
There is a 1 frame delay in SD SDI from HD tape sources
You may need to make a specific AV device setting for the deck
output some footage w BITC such that BITC matches the TC on Tape
verify if an offset is required.
capture the bitc tape using Log and capture. verify the TC FCP reports and the Bitc on tape that will give you your capture offsetDoug Beal

used a flying cow for a long time with no problems now they are no longer manufactured.
I’m now using a few Behringer SRC2496
also handy for analogue input from mics etc.
I lock it to AES from the Kona3 which is locked to black or tri level
they run about $199 most online storesDoug Beal

September 16, 2009 at 3:52 pm in reply to: RS-422 transport controller for FCP and external multitrack?the multitrack has to be rolling prior to hitting capture now. It must also be capable of passing TC down the 422 line for FCP to see the code.
As far as rolling the deck while playing or editing sequences in FCP, that is not a normal function for FCP. it’s not like a linear situation where an edit controller is engaging play on several machines. It’s an injest or output situation with FCP. It wants to edit material captured by it and or output a sequence it edited from captured material.
What exactly are you trying to accomplish?Doug Beal

You might consider trying scene detector not sure if it will suit your purpose but it might be worth a look

September 10, 2009 at 12:08 pm in reply to: RS-422 transport controller for FCP and external multitrack? To control FCP via 422 means FCP would need to do VTR emulation which it doesn’t. https://www.virtualvtr.com/ has a product that allows VTR emulation of quicktime not necessarily FCP.
However FCP can control a machine via 422, and several audio devices will mimic a BVW75 control. I have run my Alesis M20 via FCP locked to timeline and blackburst.
Edit to tape will be a different situation in this instance if the source is still on your HardDisk recorder
you’ll not be able to record to a third device in insert or assemble via FCP. You may be able to slave SMPTE from a track to your console and it can perform the edit to a device if the console is so equipped but you’re pretty much looking at a crash recordor manual assemble on the third device, then playout of the FCP/hard disk recorder setup.Doug Beal

The obvious is never seen.
David I would consider purchasing an AJA Gen10 sync generator.
this will provide you with Black burst for standard def and HD tri level sync, as well as an AES ref for any audio stations you might be using.
Use black for 29.97 and or 59.94 and setup the Trilevel for 23.98 for HD work that involves that rate. If you have a patchbay you can normal the black to ref ins on your machines and patch 1080Psf23.98 to ref in when required. The cost of a gen10 is under $400 US.
If you master anything in 23.98 and want to do a downconvert in sync to a dbeta you’ll need 23.98 to the 1800 and black to the option2 ref input of the 1800 to get it all lined up.
operating in freerun on the Kona can work as long as all other machines you output to can lock to input video but it’s not a recommended way to fly. too many gotchas can and will evolve.

what is the deck referencing for sync. It needs to be input video if you keep the Kona on freerun. sounds like its behaving like a dead patch, usually cause it can’t ref internal against the incoming signal

Import through XDCAM XFER not xml import
If the files you are trying to import are only 4K there is no media present. The XDCam file structure needs to be intact the same as if you were importing P2 the file structure needs to be intact.
There should be a bunch of folders/files inside a folder, and you can preview the footage inside the XDCAM Xfer app. If that is not happening you’ll need to get hold of the person doing the Xfer and ask for a copy of the disk on a hard drive if it was a real XDCam (shoots on industrial Blu ray and needs a specific drive to be able to read the original files) or the SCHD cards if it was shot on the prosumer series EX etcDoug Beal

verify the audio is 48K aiff.
If it is not, open each audio track in quicktime and export to 48K linear PCM 16 Bit.
when you are saving the export, add 48K to the filename to differentiate between your original tracks and the converted onesDoug Beal
