    Hi Mike:

I discovered that unbeknownst to me that Architect seemed to disguise the actual size of the .avi file that was attached to the menu etc. That file was a whopping 5 gigs. No wonder it wouldnt work. I tried DVDA on a smaller size file and it worked fine. You have to love us Newbees right?

Now for a couple more questions please now that I have hope that I can work DVDA.

    1. What is the maximum size of an .avi file that I can burn using DVDA? The Sony blank DVD I am using to burn my project to holds 4.7 Gigs

    2. Can you recommend a way to compress or reduce the size of my .avi file but still keep the quality at the “best” setting in Sony Vegas for rendering?

    Thanks very much!

    Hi Mike:

Thanks for your kind answer. The original external hard drive is 750Gig. When I check in the section My Computer it says that I have 10.6 Gigs of Free Space on this drive. This would seem to indicate that I have tons of space left. I was thinking perhaps the folder size is the issue? I tend to agree with you that not enough space would prompt DVDA to give me that message but I am puzzled based on what I know about space left on the hard drive. I am certainly open to feedback thats for sure!

    Thanks

    Hi Mark:

Are you suggesting that a tripod like the Manfrotto Basic 055XDB Tripod (Black) Outfit with 128RC (3130) Micro Fluid Head
Would not adequately support my Sony VX2100 camera?

A friend of mine swears by this for 35mm digital photography and I thought it would also work for my video cam.

    Thanks

  • Hi Terry:

Another problem I had with this feature is that when my memory is running low on my PC Vegas will not do some funtions including split. I simply click save and then shut down the program. Then go back in and things split or perform what I want perfectly once more. This can be a bit frustrating but on my machine it only happens occasionally and not enough to cause me major stress.

    Cheers!

Sorry perhaps I didnt explain very well. When the footage loads on the timeline track/view it is squeezed like an accordian horizonatally. This leaves it rather difficult to work with and edit in this format. This did not occur using Sony Vegas 6 but is a new look for me to deal with in Sony Vegas Pro 8. However I did indeed solve the problem by clicking on the negative and positive signs called zoom in and zoom out on the timeline track. I apologize if I was not clearer.

    thanks

    Thanks very much Ed

I also found another way which I found worked beautifully but took a bit more work.

Since I had about 5 legs of the road to show that this is how much I traveled on the map I created five different maps from the same gif of the original map. I used microsoft paint to draw each of the lines. Each map showed a progression of one more line indicating traveling to the destination.

I merged each of these 5 gifs on the video track on Sony Vegas so that they faded one into another in rapid succession. The result was a beautiful effect of the line gradually increasing on the route map quickly and clearly.

Will this not lower the quality of the video project?

Also I just remembered that I am burning DVD’s to ship to Australia and Britain. So far my standard Sony DVD-R format works great for overseas. Any idea how Dual DVD’s work in international situations?

    thanks

Thanks so much Ed. I am using a Sony Vaio computer with a Pioneer DVD burning system. It came packaged with the computer which I purchased 2 years ago.

Do I need a special DVD writing system to burn Dual layer DVD’s?

Thanks for all the great help!
