Well I have had some great experiences using Vegas but one thing eludes me. I was trying to create a map showing my travels in Africa. I got a great map from Encarta which works well and zooms in nicely.

However even though I could create a text media file in Vegas naming the location as the map zooms in I wanted to also trace the route somehow. I could only find straight text available so I put in fading * (asterisks) to show my location and route traveled but it looks rather lame. I wanted arrows gradually tracing the route… Any idea how to import arrows and or some other cool graphics that show a route traveled?

    Thanks again!

    Here’s an easy way:

Have TWO maps, one without the line and one WITH the line. Now fade from the without to the with and change the transition to a linear wipe (works especially well if the line is going straight across.)

    Thanks very much Ed

I also found another way which I found worked beautifully but took a bit more work.

Since I had about 5 legs of the road to show that this is how much I traveled on the map I created five different maps from the same gif of the original map. I used microsoft paint to draw each of the lines. Each map showed a progression of one more line indicating traveling to the destination.

I merged each of these 5 gifs on the video track on Sony Vegas so that they faded one into another in rapid succession. The result was a beautiful effect of the line gradually increasing on the route map quickly and clearly.
