I created a movie that is 02:16:50 in lenght and would like to fit it on a single layer DVD…is this possible? If so, could you point me to a tutorial that might help guide me throught the steps?

    Thanks…

Yes it is possible. It’s simply a matter of lowering the bitrate when making the MPEG2 file. Use the bitrate chart in vol 1 #7 of my newsletters for an appropriate bitrate value.

Will this not lower the quality of the video project?

When making the MPEG2 file at whatever bitrate the chart specifies, am I also given the opportunity to choose between AC3 or WAV for my audio? If so, is there a way to make these settings default? Or are there reasons why I might not want AC3 as the default setting?

    Thanks…

DVDA will use AC3 by default. You have to manually change it to PCM/WAV if that is what you want. I know of no reason to NOT use AC3.

The lower the bitrate, the potential for lower the quality. I say potential only because it kind of depends on what the footage is. If it’s fast action, it can deteriorate in a hurry. If it’s a talking head, you can probably go even lower! I routinely go up to 2 hours. The extra 16+ minutes will put it in the iffy zone.

When I got done rendering my project in Vegas, it produced a WAV file for the audio. Are you saying the DVDA uses my WAV file and converts it into an AC3?

    Thanks…

Following your newsletter to Render As, the Custom button that would allow me to manipulate the bitrate, is grayed out as if this function were not an option for me…any suggestions?

    Thanks…

Since I have Vegas 6 and your tutorial is for Vegas 4, is it still necessary to render for DVD as a two step process?

    Thanks…

To further define my previous post dealing with the Render As question, the Custom button is greyed out when following the directions in your tutorial to first select MainConcept MPEG2. If I select MainConcept MPEG1, then the Custom button works and I am presented with the same screen shown in your tutorial. When MPEG2 is selected, Custom is not an option…please advise.

    Thanks…
