This totally makes sense! By the way as I try to unravel some mysteries here would you be so kind to tell me how come a DVD of a favorite 2 hour long movie is all contained on one DVD?
What process are they using that I am not in other words…
thanks so much for all of your help!

January 26, 2006 at 10:46 pm in reply to: Newbee Videographer gets his first paid Assignment!Hi Jeremy:
Thanks for your great imput.. this was a personal friend and a learning experience for me. While I am in training so to speak I figure I would provide a financial break for clients. I am still trying to find out what a serious pro charges his clients but the annoying factor is when I go to websites the assumption is that I am ready to use the service and the site wants particulars so the Videographer can get back to me with a price quote… oh well. the search continues.
Thanks!

Yes I did it more for the experience and the music teacher was a personal friend. I filmed for almost 2 hours but the drive was only 10 minutes away to the filming site. I did not editing at all. The music performances were back to back and thus no room for editing for the most part. I designed the DVD’s dust cover from stills from the performance and I am really delighted with the outcome.
Somewhere online must be rates for videographers… So I can get a ball park idea and as a beginner know what to charge. Thanks so much for your imput!

December 13, 2005 at 11:06 pm in reply to: Picture in Picture in Sony Vegas Movie StudioThank you Ed. By the way I was essentially asking the wrong question. I wanted to create the effect of a friend being filmed here in California and creating a special affect to show him interacting with African animals in footage obtained from Africa.
To be clearer I am wondering what is the terminology that describes when I “cut out” the person in event 1 (him standing in California)
and paste him or make him or merge him with event 2 appearing with an african elephant in another clip? Thank you for your gracious patience with a newby!

PIP in its sleep? Wow that would be great if I could do the same. Then I could wake and my project in Sony Vegas Move Studio would be complete. Seriously I cannot find the features that would allow me to create a PIP in the elementary version of Vegas 6. The feature Bezier Mask is only available in the full version. Has anyone ever on the face of the planet done PIP in the vasic version 6?
Thanks!

November 27, 2005 at 11:06 pm in reply to: What happened to the versatility in viewing and working with my project!Hi Peter:
Perhaps I am doing this quite correctly…. when I perform control Alt Delete then all that happens is that task manager opens up in windows and it wants to know that task I want to end….
hmmm… not quite what I was expecting… By the way I am much more comfortable now setting up my workspace as I desire thanks to you! I was literally very limited without knowing how to move things around and to think it was that simple!
Thanks… let me know if there is some other way I can acquire the option to save different desk space setups as per your request and save it giving it a number… I think I am not doing something correctly here on movie studio +DVD
cheers

Excellent Ed… I didnt know that recapture had a built in memory feature. So can I assume that I grab the original DV film load it up in the camera connect my Ilink to computer once more and then start capturing on my PC and then I am ready to roll?
By the way perhaps I have not discovered veg files. I was under the impression that they were not available to me in sony vegas Movie Creator and DVD but only the full version of the software.
Thanks again!

November 23, 2005 at 10:59 pm in reply to: Vegas and concern about losing weeks of work!Hi Ed:
Perhaps this points quite loudly to being an enthusiastic beginner without as much careful methodology in working with my footage… chuckle.
I basically did not record start and stop times with my footage. Simply imputted it into vegas directly from my Sony DV camera. Each clip simply rested in the project media section of vegas in an unedited raw format.
From there I trimmed or slowed down etc. the footage as it was added into my project one chunk at a time.
So basically I would have to redo the entire process of trimming and editing the footage and building it one piece at a time once more into a 45 min film…
that is unless I have missed on some basic elementary steps or principles in vegas which I may just well have. Thanks for your kind mentoring in this!

Since all of the cuts I made of the original footage is lost when I import the footage all over again this seems like redoing a 45 min movie will take a long time! So I understand your position on finishing the project and then deleting the files. The digital master is simply one copy of the entire project on a DVD? or how do you store the master? Also are there companies that provide a service to duplicate your master for you or how do you reproduce it in case the customer all of a sudden wants more copies?
Thanks again!
