i know you don’t want to spend money, but graham nattress has a great plugin just for what you want in film effects 2.1 (best 100 bucks this editor ever ever spent)

P.S. DWI productions is in no way affiliated with Graham Nattress, nor are they on the same continent:)

The weird thing is, it doesn’t seem to happen to all jpegs. two identical jpegs, same properties, one looks fine the other doesn’t.

FCP 4.5, using external firewire drives on my dual 1 gig g4, was very responsive. I work primarily in dv, so when i would composite livetype over a track, i would highlight and render selection, and it would knock it out fairly quick. Now, with fcp 5 and my dual g5 2.7, i highlight, render selections, then it seems to “search” for 2 or 3 seconds then writes to video at seemingly the same rate as before. That’s what i mean by not “crisp”
The g5 “whirs”up when i scrub over the livetype clip- and i stopped using”dynamic” settings because its just stuttering. so, i guess i didn’t expect that level of performance from such a powerful machine. I’m hoping its some tiger setting or fcp5 setting that i’m missing.

I think he’s right walter. I just had heart failure working on fcp 5 and my new g5. Picture were scaling at an unacceptable quality. changed dominance to NONE, closed project, opened new one and imported and scaled pic. Now its at FCP quality levels and a little better than 4.5 scaling.

not the greatest piece of gear, but great vhs dubs via firewire:) did you shut down ( not restart) everything, unplug the unit and try again. I find that works. also make sure channel is set to f1.

also , call lacie tech support. We just bought two d2 250 fw drives and one of them kept dismounting on its own. i went ot he website and downloaded the newest drivers. The program checked the drives and said”Drives are up to date”
when i finally got through to lacie, they said to disregard the message and force the update by holding option key down and running the program.
the drivers were old and this replaced them, but in the end it still kept dismounting and i had to send it back. They must be having ALOT of calls about d2, as the techie ran through the checklist much too quickly.
