February 9, 2015 at 4:34 pm in reply to: Proper workflow advice for difficult roto/track/key/matte/mask/Mocha is probably the way to go with this one. I know you mentioned that you have done it before, but what is your basic workflow? Are you only using one spline mask?
My suggestion would be to break the body up into 12 spline masks, and track them each on their own. and copying the mask information back your footage. Something like: Hands, forearms, upper arms, head, torso, upper legs, lower legs, feet. That way you can be more definite on your masks and not try to have the program track too much at a time.
Just a thought.

Try linking the shape specific property to a glue gun effect, just hide the glue gun do you don’t see the stroke it makes.

February 3, 2015 at 3:33 pm in reply to: Camera controls for viewing object (plane) flybyUse suretarget 2 by video copilot. It has an automatic rotation setting which you can use to rotate the camera. The tutorial walks you through how to assign bulls as camera positions. So you would have a group null on the plane and then a null at where the planes final position will be. Then keyframe the target value between your two nulls. Works pretty good.

February 1, 2015 at 6:35 pm in reply to: Deleting Black Background from Stock FootageHave you first tried setting the blending mode to lighten, screen, add, or overlay? A lot of times that will strip the blacks out and give you what you want without having to try to key it. You could also try Kellogg or something, but I’ve heard people have trouble keying out blacks.

January 30, 2015 at 6:25 pm in reply to: Why does Camera blur from Depth of Field look grainy?Really it depends on the computer, however, a ray traced level of ten is the starting point for final output quality in my opinion. Anything higher will produce better results, but may be too taxing on your system.

January 27, 2015 at 5:23 pm in reply to: anyone know how this text / graphic effect was created ? take a look: (and thank you). The lines with dots was Plexus 2, placing it in 3d space was most likely the camera tracker tool.
The other effects were most likely vector elements that were animated in 3d space and using the depth of field of the 3d camera.

Besides using Newton 2’s physics engine or another third party plugin that I am unaware of,I would say not likely. The other thing you can try is ask the files in the expressions forum if they can help make an expression to do this in relation to an objects position

This entire piece was made using Newton 2. I’m sure there was a setting in there that lets you change scale in relation to a subjects position. I don’t have the plugin but that is why I would start.

January 21, 2015 at 4:52 pm in reply to: Dashed stroke following a motion path of another layer?I don’t think so, at least not without a 3rd party plugin. Personally, what I would do would be to keyframe your bee from start to finish, exactly like you want it, and then do the stroke last instead of trying to do it all at once. It will just save you time and frustration, and will help keep the comp cleaner.
Another way to have this effect, but without the line moving, is to precompose the stroke’s shape layer and then reveal it with a mask or track matte (instead of using the trim paths property).
Hope that helps. If any of the other folks here can think of a way to do that automatically then I’d also like to know! (You may want to try the guys on AE expressions forum, they may be able to help with an expression to do just this)

January 21, 2015 at 3:35 pm in reply to: Dashed stroke following a motion path of another layer? Here’s what you do:
Copy the position data that you have by clicking on the Position propert, and hitting cntrl (or cmd) + c. Then right click, add shape layer. Under contents, add a path, stroke and trim paths. Paste the position data on to the path by selecting the path property, and pressing cntrl (cmd) + v. ON your stroke, change the color to black (or whatever you want) then under dashes press the + button. Change the width of the dashes and gaps settings to get what you want. Under the trim paths, key frame the end from 0 to 100% following the path of your bee.
There ya go. Lastly, play with the settings to get the timing and look the way you want it.
Hope that helps
