To my understanding, media encoder also doesn’t utilize multiple core processing. While it is better than After Effects, I am looking for something that is better than encoder as well.

That did the trick. I had never even heard of handbrake before. What wonderful software

Something like this really is done in a true 3d software like cinema 4d or Maya. That said, the plugin you will have the most success with is video copilot’s element 3d.
After effects natively can’t do something like this because it is not a true 3d program, its 2.5d. 2d planes in 3d space. It needs help from third party plugins, and even then you can usually get better results for this type of thing with real 3d programs. Hope that helps.

One way to select the entire mask is to go to the layer in which it is on, select it, and hit “m” this will bring up all masks. Then select the mask in the layer on the timeline, and the entire thing should select. Also if you hit cntrl (or shift, sorry I do it so reflexively that I can’t remember if I’m not in front of it) you can select multiple sides or vertices of your mask from the composition window. Does that help?

July 12, 2015 at 11:15 pm in reply to: Motion Track data altered from track point to nullIs your null parented to another layer? That could cause the issue. That is also another way to fix the issue. If the track motion is still the same but it is just in the wrong x,y position through out, just parent the null to another null and use the second null to line it back up. Not pretty but it should work

and if they aren’t moving it on set then they are shooting on a 2k or 4k video, bringing the footage in on a 1080 comp, and then applying a wiggle effect to the position /or using the wiggler control to create differences of the speed.
To me its very distracting and kind of hard to watch, but who am I to judge.

Kind of a neat plugin, I hadn’t heard of it before now. But here is what the differences look like:
While both are able to create point clouds or containers from 3D models, primitives, and utilize noise and effectors to change how those particles react. Plexus’s main selling point is that it will automatically interpolate connective lines and faces based the distances of particles. These lines are a very linear, straightforward connection. You can create beams that utilize Bezier on them, but those (if I remember correctly) don’t really rely much on the distance algorithms.
Nodes appears to look more organic, with curvy lines and noise. It can do the same type of beam work, and has the added benefits of point clouds from footage. It also seems to have better text control, with the plugin actually manipulating the text within its point clouds, vs generating point clouds based on text positioning (Plexus). So if you were wanting to make the same type of look in Plexus you would have x^n amount more work. Nodes also has a projection effect that allows you to see the front face but not the back face of a 3D point cloud, (which you can flub in Plexus by using a sphere effector effecting the color or opacity and using clever compositing skills.) The carrousel effect is also a nice touch with automatic highlight of your important elements. The getting started templates are pretty sweet too. It also seems to be able to handle creating procedural geometry for each of the nodes which is nice, ie: a dot with a circle around it, with a stroked circle around that, etc. etc. etc.
So really it seems what you need it to do is the determining factor to me. Do you want it to auto interpolate the connection of lines and faces from distance or have a more structured linear look? If yes, the Plexus 2 by all means. Do you want it to look more organic with curvier lines and a few other features that Plexus 2 does not have, but sans the distance algorithm? Then Nodes 2 is worth the money.
That said, I’ve used Plexus 2 for a few info graphic things and its a great plugin and it appears that some of the features overlap with Node. But they have 2 similar but separate markets. Even still, I know what my next plugin on my wishlist is now.

Depending on how you work it you could also have the circle fade out to transparency or wipe out using either a shape layer+scale+alpha inverted track matte or a subtract circle mask+mask expansion over your precomp of your gun barrel sequence. Then just render it out as a .mov with a 32bit color space / RGB+A render settings, and lay that on top of your video sequence from your non-linear editor. Cheers.

I’m not so sure if you need to duplicate the comp, if you render out to media encoder, it will save a temp project with your adjustments saved to it. So you can set it all up with just one comp and it will save a separate temp every time. I haven’t tried that with 2015 yet, but it worked fine in cc2014
