Deleting Black Background from Stock Footage
Hello:
I’m running into an interesting dilemma.
I have a royalty-free stock star-burst footage, which I would like to superimpose over a logo I created.
Here’s what I have done thus far:
1) Imported the star burst footage(.mp4) into the project panel
2) Dragged it onto the composition timeline
3) Positioned where I want the burst to appear
4) Chose stock footage layer
5) Chose EFFECT (from menu panel)
6) Clicked CHANNELS
7) Click SHIFT CHANNELS
8) In the Effects Controls Panel, I chose TAKE ALPHA FROM
9) From drop-down menu, I clicked LUMINANCEAs you can see, most of the background is gone. However, the glow of the burst shows the border of the file itself.
Any suggestions how to completely get rid of this? I have attached a picture to show you what the border looks like.

Have you first tried setting the blending mode to lighten, screen, add, or overlay? A lot of times that will strip the blacks out and give you what you want without having to try to key it. You could also try Kellogg or something, but I’ve heard people have trouble keying out blacks.

Setting the transfer mode to screen should work, or you can download Red Giant’s free Unmult plugin.
