Instead of using the brightness/contrast, I instead like to use RGB Curves.

This allows you to make a custom contrast setting but also to take away or add more RGB to your footage per color channel. I would order my effects the following:
    Exposure (if needed)
Sharpen (not a lot just like 15 points or less)
    RGB Curves
Color/Saturation (or tint depending on if you want a nice desaturation)

If you want deep shadows but not to affect the color channels, I also use this method I came up with:

Duplicate the footage, on top layer, add tint then curves. Leave the tint B&W, crush the blacks a bit, then set blending mode to darken or multiply and change opacity to your liking. You can then add the previous mentioned workflow to your original footage for stronger colors etc.

    Just my 2 cents.

Have you tried lighting first, then precompse the whole comp, then cutting it up and adding your transparency?

Though the lights are problematic in after effects, I would suggest using the LightMan script found at aescripts.com. Its pay what you want, and when you use it, it creates a camera that shows you exactly your lights position and where it is looking. Once you have it placed, just delete or turn off the camera. Works great.

January 19, 2015 at 5:29 pm in reply to: Rising Text Effect AE

This is an easy one. When you have your text, go to the text animate properties, and insert a position attribute. Keyframe your range selector start point, and then put the value in the position that you want it to change. Under advanced change your ease options or make an easy ease on the keyframes and in the graph editor manually change it.

Next precompose, then create a mask to mask out the bottom position, feather it a bit, and then play the animation. The text should raise up just like that add.

Will at 40 min, that would be very taxing on a system through ae rendering. It sounds like you had run out of allocated memory.

Double check in you preferences that you have given as much ram as possible for your rendering. Also, if you are running gpu acceleration, your GUI could be running out of memory. My personal opinion would be to break up the project into smaller bite size pieces and then compile them in a nonlinear editor and export again. Your computer will just like you better.

If I am understanding you correctly, you need to adjust the z offset or positioning for the extrusion into negative z space. That will allow the extrusion to get closer to the camera. Without it in front of me, I couldn’t be sure, but I believe there is a scale you can use too. If you need e help let me know, and I will open it up and be more thorough.

    Well Heck,
this looks like a job for Mocha’s planar tracker/stabilizer. Here is a webinar that goes into detail how it works. https://www.imagineersystems.com/videos/mocha-stabilize-webinar/

You should have access to it through AE.

(Unfortunately) Since you don’t like the results of the Warp Stabilizer, I would go redo the stabilization using Mocha. I think you’ll be able to get some solid results trying that. (I wouldn’t go and delete what you have, but at the very least try a new project with it.)

Have you instead tried reversing the order? Try speeding it up, precomping and then apply the warp stabilizer using the smoothing factors. Or even better, stabilize, speed up, preconpse and srabilze again.

Put your second footage on top, then change the blending mode to screen or overlay. You can also adjust opacity for desired look.

You can do either, just be sure to send me the same quality you are using. I can download videos from YouTube using keepvid.com. Or you can email me or post a link to a download site or the file itself if it isn’t too big.
