November 21, 2006 at 12:09 pm in reply to: Video preview problems with Aja’s LHe card and After Effects 7.0[mike escher] “I have recently set up my new computer (a Mac Pro with 5gigs of memory and an Aja LHe video card) and wanted to use my 2nd monitor for video preview and playback from After Effects.”
Are you running the latest Kona software? I believe that capability has just been added. From the AJA LH support page:
“KONA LH/LHe Drivers, Control Panel, and Notes
(Version 3.3, Release Date 11/14/2006, TAR archive)
This version adds Automator plug-ins for OS X 10.4 for batch DPX-to-QT AND QT-to-DPX translation, Rosetta applications like Adobe After Effects can now display their output thru KONA -
[Shari225] “I got curious too. Here is what is posted on the Markertek Online store:
Why Choose HD-SDI over IEEE1394 FireWire?……..”Yes that makes perfect sense when talking about HDV, but your DSR-45 is not an HDV deck, and it’s DV codec is not a GOP format.
Glad to hear you found a retailer who will help you set up your system. That seems like the best way for you to go and having someone close by will be well worth the extra cost.

[Bob Zelin] “Once you capture your material (as DV25 using firewire – what a shame),”
Bob,
Just curious…. since the DSR-45 is a DVCam deck which is playing a DV25 signal, why is taking the file in via Firewire a bad thing? I have an LH board in my system, but if the source is DV or DVCam I’m bringing it in via Firewire. Is it that you feel it would be better to be cutting in SD uncompressed so why not bring it in that way in the first place via analog component?

Shari,
Please provide more information as to the settings you’ve chosen both in FCP and in the Kona Control Panel, then folks will have a better chance of helping you.
On a whim, look under the FCP View Menu and see what is selected under External Video. FCP has a habit of turning external video to “Off” when settings are changed.

Not sure if this fits, but take a look at SquareBox’s CatDV server addition:

I use the stand alone pro edition and have been happy with the product and with email support I’ve received from the company (based in the UK)

Jeff,
Read up on using the Scale and Center controls in the Viewer’s Motion Tab, it’s pretty easy. You could also use the DH_Box plug-in from Digital Heaven. In either case you would position your clips to play concurrently on multiple tracks in your sequence, then make adjustments to each one. Put a black slug full frame behind the other clips.

November 16, 2006 at 2:24 pm in reply to: Update – Conflict with AJA/Fusion 500P/TEMPO X4PDavid,
While I certainly see Bob’s point about not continuing the OT thread here, I doubt I’m alone in saying I’ve followed the thread with great interest and a lot of wincing in empathy at your situation. When you have resolved things I sure would like to know what the problem(s) turned out to be.
I would also like to say, as one who once snapped back pretty strongly when Bob’s “old” style of reply was directed at me, that we all here are very lucky to have such a knowledgeable and generous person taking a great amount of his time to help people on these forums. The fact that such system building and troubleshooting is how Bob makes his living (or so I gather) and yet he spends such a great amount of time advising people for free here, is truly impressive and a testimony to his nature. Thank you Mr. Zelin.

Hmmm, that’s odd. I just cut and pasted the link directly from my post and it worked fine. Oh well, https://www.chv-plugins.com will get you to the home page, then choose FX-Script Plugins and look for the Motion Tracker link. They recently redid their website and although it looks cooler, the old one had way more information about the plug-ins.
He’s got some pretty cool stuff so you might want to look through and choose the entire bundle for 299.

There’s also the Motion Tracking Collection of plug-ins from CHV which included their “Point Distortion” plug in, designed for just this purpose.
