I second Bob’s suggestion on the Horita BSG-50. I bought one used, had an issue some time later, and Horita fixed it free under warranty and had it back to me in two days. Great service.

There are three on ebay right now. One is new in the box with a “buy it now” price of 199 . It’s 329 at B&H.

    Regards,
    David

  • [roughrider] “Maybe because the footage was exported from Avid? Jealous Final Cut?”

I would try recording some DV footage in the camera and then try importing to FCP. I’ve had no problem with DVCam material shot on a Z1u coming in to FCP 5.0 or 5.1x.

[FargoRoss] “I’m not sure how to get that into the SDI or Component in’s of the LHe.”

Anyway, regardless of what kind of composite signal your deck is capable of, it’s easy to bring in composite through your LHe. The card is not limited to SDI and component. You set the type of analog signal in the AJA Control Panel’s Input tab. A quick search in your manual will explain how to do it and where to route the signal.

[FargoRoss] “It is an NTSC deck. It’s ability to output PAL is limited to the onscreen LCD, and the RCA Composite out.”

If it’s an NTSC deck I don’t think you can get any PAL output. I don’t find any mention of that in the deck’s literature, but I did find this on one vendor’s website:

“with the exception of the DSR-11 and DSR-25 dual standard NTSC/PAL desktop VTRs, you cannot get PAL playback output on NTSC DVCAM VTRs (PAL viewing is possible on the DSR-50 LCD monitor, but no PAL output is available), and similarly, cannot get NTSC playback on PAL DVCAM VTRs.”

[FargoRoss] “The DSR-45 can only output the DVCAM-PAL through the RCA Composite out (“Monitor Out”).”

Why won’t it output via component?

I use CatDV pro from Squarebox Systems
    https://www.squarebox.co.uk/professional.html

    From their website:
    Export catalogs as HTML
Print detailed reports containing all or selected clips according to your chosen view, either with or without thumbnails
Print a single page index print or “contact sheet” containing a summary of the contents of a tape, with the name, timecode, recording date and a thumbnail of each scene
Print selected images (any number per page)

The program also can build preview files with a large choice of codecs and at any size you want. I have about 60 hours of preview movies on my Powerbook right now, using only a couple of gigs of space. Great for logging and note taking on the train, and for having footage available for meetings and such.

I’ve also heard good things about HD Log from Imagine Products. They read this board and will probably anwer your post as well.

Ah, good, glad that worked. It can be very confusing, the issue here is that your DV footage uses non-square pixels.

[ojo de pollo] “For the sequence settings in the sequence tab we put “CCIR 601 PAL Sq. (4:3), Anamorphic, Editing Timebase:25, Compression: DV PAL..”

    Sarah,
What happens if you set the sequence’s Aspect Ratio to CCIR 601 / DV PAL (5:4)?

  • There’s also the Trail FCP plug-in, part of the Clone and Paint Collection ($49) from CHV:

You might want to email Christoph at CHV to ask if his Motion Tracker plug in could handle this. Here’s a link to the plug in:
    https://www.chv-plugins.com/cms/Fx-Script/MotionTracker-collection/Insert-Image.php

There’s a contact form link at the bottom of that page.
