Ok so after having a quick look around HD Log by https://www.imagineproducts.com seems to be just what were looking for. It’s expensive but we have had most of our software comissioned for web based use (PHP,MySQL and some new AJAX Scripting – really cool!).

Anyway, what I really like is their Clip Library is the MySql DB and the PHP front-end however, we really wouldn’t be using all the features to warrant the 7K rough price.

So my question to you is what types of logging systems do you use? Are they proprietary or open-source?

I’m particularly interested in any app that uses a DB backend that also has a web interface or also a plain web-based app.

    Looking forward to your responses,

    Thanks!
    Alex.

A lot of folks use Excel or Filemaker Pro. Do a search here on the Cow on FMP (I just did) – huge amount of discussion on this topic and most of the options have been covered/suggested. Note: Pilotware (pilotware.com) is coming out with a single-user version of their enterpise level Video Logging System that looks interesting – though I don’t know the cost.

I’m actually looking for more of a logging/asset managment system. Excel is useless because of a lack of DB power and FMP uses proprietary DB’s and its licencing fees are a pain in any large kind of deployment. More looking at cocoa apps that are 1) cheap and 2) db backend or open source web apps.

Hopefully others have some experience with the above two. Thanks anyway though.

Not sure if this fits, but take a look at SquareBox’s CatDV server addition:

    https://www.squarebox.co.uk/server.html

I use the stand alone pro edition and have been happy with the product and with email support I’ve received from the company (based in the UK)
