Hi Robert,
My post was from two years ago – since then, Adobe has improved on its audio sequence assignments. The latest version of PPro CC (9.0.2) allows for true 5.1 track targeting. I’ve already used it in my work, and can now export a real 5.1 mix with other tracks assigned to stereo or mono.
Thanks for your attention to the matter, though!
Cheers,
David

November 6, 2015 at 8:53 pm in reply to: Premiere pro gone bonkers since El Capitan upgradeAs Larry Jordan has stated many times, unless there’s a pressing, urgent reason to upgrade an OS, don’t do it and wait for several months – and several bug fixes – before attempting.
I’m cool with Yosemite for another year at this point..!

This bug has been fixed by the latest version (9.0.2.6) My waveforms all appear without any problem since the latest revision.

I can confirm this – discovered it on my own. Resizing the source window does the trick, but a bug fix is obviously preferable.

Hi Ben,
I’m also a trailer editor and have done exactly what you’re about to go through. Once I edited a trailer using the 5.1 stems of dialogue, effects, and music – which was so unwieldy every time I had to make an edit that I wanted to scream.
Your preferred method of using stereo stems and letting the mixers do their work creating a 5.1 output is definitely the way to go.
Cheers,
David

Matthew – you are experiencing the same issue I’ve dealt with when trying to export trailers from PPro (or Avid, for that matter) needing to have mixed audio embedded in the QT file. Same issue – I need a file with stereo comp mix on 1&2, stereo M&E on 3&4, and 5.1 mono on 5-10.
I’ve posted this question many times, in many different forums, but every time it seems the answer is no. No, it can’t be done in PPro or Avid. I can’t speak for FCPX, as I don’t use it, but this very issue is the reason why my next iMac will have a Parallels partition with an older OS just so that I can load FCP 7 on it and easily export QT files with mixed audio.

Or PPro CC, for that matter. Same procedure there.

I had this issue last year with one of the CC versions, but it was fixed in whatever version came out first in 2015. It was a critical error for me as the show I was editing promos for was all MXF-based.
No MXF issues with CC 2014 for me. I hope your problem is resolved quickly.
BTW I didn’t have to wipe my hard drive at all; just the update from the beginning of this year did the trick.

August 14, 2014 at 6:59 pm in reply to: Trendy effect in TV commercials and movie trailersAs a trailer editor for twenty-five years, I can certainly attest to the above “fashion” statements. There have been times when simple fades were the rage, and almost every cut in a trailer had one. What’s unfortunate is that selling the product – or movie in this case – sometimes gets lost in the one-upmanship that goes on display.

Thanks again. I also own an AJA T-TAP for external monitoring, so I’ll try to swap that out with the Ultrastudio, update the AJA driver, and see if there’s any difference…
