Hi Eric,
Thanks for your response. Just dealing with ProRes 1920×1080 footage on a LaCie Thunderbolt RAID.
Perhaps my specific issues are related to the Blackmagic UltraStudio 3D device I use that is on its own Thunderbolt port. But I did just upgrade the driver for it…

I honestly think that the apparent road that DaVinci Resolve is on might be the way to go for the future; kind of what Walter Murch talked about years ago when I saw him at a LACPUG meeting: the more everything gets geared towards just one app, integrating all the powerful features from various other ones, the better off we’ll be. I’m very curious to see just how far BMD takes the editing features of Resolve and will download ver 11 just as soon as it becomes available. If they start adding on audio features (and it already seems more powerful than FCP X in that department based on the video demo I watched) that will be a further indication of their intentions.

Hooray! This new release has fixed the red frame and audio problems that the previous one had created on both my iMac and MacBook Pro. I can now move forward…thanks guys!!!

April 3, 2014 at 7:58 pm in reply to: David Fincher’s “Girl Gone” being cut on Adobe Premiere ProNot having read anything about this, it doesn’t surprise me, as his editing crew cut both “Social Network” and “Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” on FCP 7 and probably wanted to just continue with the most similar software possible. We all know that’s PPro, and that’s why, like Walter and so many others, I’ve also jumped on the Adobe bandwagon.
Encouraging news!

I’ll just add to this conversation that over the last several months I’ve completed over a hundred promos using PPro CC’s broadcast colors filter on an adjustment layer, and have thrown lots of wild colors and looks at it – and one of the biggest labs in L.A. has QC’ed and accepted every single one of them.

Hi Terry,
Rats. Looks like Pref Manager is indeed Mac only. I wonder if there’s a comparable app out there for Windows…anyone?

Hi Terry,
I’ve had a similar problem. For the past half year, I’ve been editing promos for a series using CC. Whenever I exit the app, and restart it later, attempting to reopen a project, it will fail to open every time unless once I’m out of CC I do the following: trash my prefs using Digital Rebellion’s Preference Manager. This happens literally every time, so I always have Preference Manager open. It’s a free download:
https://www.digitalrebellion.com/prefman/download.html
I’ve found CC to be great, although it’s still very crashy. I think it may be due to the fact that the shows that I’m editing promos for are from .mxf files. For some reason, PP CC doesn’t like them (or at least certain versions of them), and the most recent 7.2 update was a disaster for me as a result (I had to roll back to 7.1). I hope Adobe is working on fix for the red flashes I was getting with 7.2 (7.2.0 or 7.2.1 for that matter).
Anyway, try trashing your prefs with Preference Manager every time you try to open that problem project file. Only takes a couple of seconds, and it’s really saved my life with my own project!
Good luck,
David

This sounds like the problem I was experiencing on my iMac. Stuttering, horrid red flash frames, audio dropouts galore on the 7.2.0 version. Had to roll back to 7.1.0. I was hoping the 7.2.1 version would have fixed my problems, but no. Same issues; same rollback to 7.1.0 and now fine again.

Hello Gary,
I followed the Mac instructions on this page…

Thanks for your response. I’ll be checking on the Blackmagic support page to see if they have any new updates for the Ultrastudio driver (the last was on Nov. 22nd, which I’m using now). I just had all sorts of playback issues with 7.2 – quite unlike any previous updates, which had all gone smoothly.
