Forgot about the scrubbing feature that had been added. Quite frankly, because the thumbnails are so small in FCP, it really didn’t make much of a difference to me. The playable picons in Discreet Edit were much larger and clearer.

What’s amazing is that skimming and marking an in and an out in the “browser” is something the Discreet Edit did in 1998…and I’ve been waiting for it to happen in FCP for a decade, to no avail. Now, Adobe has brought it back – great!

    Hi Tom,

Thanks for your reply; however unfortunate it may be. I’ve since dumped my interest in the FW-1082, as I just got an iMac that doesn’t really support it anyway (only having one FW 800 port, which would mean I’d have to dumb it down to 400 to use it with the 1082 and thus daisy chaining it to any 800 drives would then make them half as useful). I’ve since gotten hold of an iPad app, the AC-7, which quite honestly does just as good a job of commanding levels as the 1082 did – and it costs less than $10 (assuming you already have an iPad, of course)! So now I’m just hoping that the next version of Audition (CS 6) will be back on track to supporting control surfaces. If so, all will be good.

    Hi Kevin,

I’m another soon-to-be FCP-to-PPro switcher. Have CS5.5 and for the life of me can’t find anywhere in Audition where the control surface can be activated. Using help in Audition doesn’t even come up with the phrase “control surface.” I have the iPad app AC-7 Core and am using it successfully in FCP and STP, but would like to use it in Audition as well (it has a mode for Audition, so obviously it’s meant to work there). Yet it doesn’t respond when I’m in the Audition app, which usually means I have to activate a command somewhere in the program for it. Any suggestions? Thanks!

    Cheers,

    David

  • Here’s a related question: what about the SDI proc amp listed on the Hotronics.com site – a few thousand dollars cheaper than the SDI Legalizer from Leitch and also promises to keep chroma and luma levels within legal limits in real time?

For the amount of money that the Leitch SDI Legalizer is going for (around $4500), I assume it offers something more…?

Anyone with an answer please respond – I’m working on a series and will be outputting it soon. Would like to know what my options are!

    Thanks,

    David
