  • Thanks Adam, could you explain how to do that? I’m not that advanced in Cinema 4D.

    Thanks again.

    you can add an expression to the source text of each layer, thisComp.name (if it’s precomped) or thisLayer.name of it’s not, then all you need to do is retype the text either on the project panel or the timeline panel, but all previous animation will stay with the layer.

    You can add the lights you want and copy the position and rotation of current elements.

    Or put each object inside a null, then put a new light inside that null and reset the position of the light to 0,0,0, then turn off/hide the original object.

    Sorry I’m no C4D expert, probably there’s an easier/faster way.

    In order to export the project to AE, you need to save it as an .aec file, on the render settings window, on the save tab, go to Compositing Project File.

    You can also use the transform tool for that.
    I also often create a quick shape right next to the text box, a square or something like it, I select both together and scale down to what I need, then I delete the square.

    I know it sounds like too much a hassle, but I’m so used to it that I do it probably faster than using the scale tool.

  • Jpgs, 8 bits.

  • I’m getting this error too, except ALL my links are rgb, some always were, some I had to convert with photoshop.

    Why am I still getting the error?

  • Thanks a lot Dan, I ended up using a slightly different approach, but added up to the same. Your is a lot cleaner and concise.

    Thanks again!

    sizemasterx = thisComp.layer("opacity and scale ctrl").transform.scale[0]
    sizemastery = thisComp.layer("opacity and scale ctrl").transform.scale[1];

    [(sizemasterx-40),(sizemastery-40)]

  • I’m getting this same error with one file in particular, but all my links are rgb 8/bit, I already tried re-saving them but nothing seems to fix the issue. Could it be that I’m swapping the file across systems and operating systems?

  • So after some trial and error I found out what my two issue were.

    1. I turned on show illumination and turned off no illumination for both lights, they now appear on my aec file, but since i don’t want to see the light they are emanating i added a compositing tag to each of them so the camera doesn’t see them.

    2. i figured out why the lights were coming in an off position, but i haven’t figured out how to keep them in the right position while the car is visible, let me explain: the camera is traveling on a spline and a rail is keeping its position so it doesn’t flip when it turns, however by following this “dolly” approach, the car was getting out of frame at some portions, so i animated the film offset, both x and y, and just realized that the aec file can’t compensate for that.

    any ideas on how i can keep the lights on its position as well as the car in frame for the whole sequence?

    thanks in advance.

  • I use a wacom tablet. And customized the buttons in a way that when i click the bottom one in the pen equals to hitting the number one on my keyboard, the top button is assigned to number three, so i orbit the camera around with this one, number two i just press it on the keyboard since there’s only two buttons available on the pen.

    This two shortcuts help me be a lot faster.
