  • If your system came from a qualified Avid dealer make him fix it.

Didn’t think it did :-D, so… make sure the SB card is set as the preferred playback/record device. And check the bios to make sure no onboard audio cards are enabled. You may also be able to disable onbaoard cards within “Device Manager”. If none of the above work, you may want to borrow or buy a $27 Audigy and try it.

I’ve never tried upresing in a transcode, but transcoding Panasonic P2 footage to Avid’s DnX HD codec allows full res playback to client monitor on my Adrenaline.

Actually you can change them. If you switch to frame view and hit the space bar the icon will update as the video plays. You can also hit “end” to use the last frame. Another poster suggested you can use the advance/rewind frame keys to set the icon, but I’ve never had any luck with that.

Are you using an interface like the Rosetta Stone between the Adrenaline and computer port? Computers use RS232 protocol. You’ll have to adapt it to use it for machine control.

In fact… you don’t even have to add the extension to open bins.

If it’s a bin file, you can add the extension AVB to the file and Avid will recognize it as a bin. To be clear, you open bin files by using the “open bin” command… you don’t import them into the Avid.

Did you switch soundcards because your onboard wasn’t working, or because you read that it was incompatible with Avid?

Sorry, meant to answer this last week! PNGs work very well in the Avid. They do carry an alpha channel. What you’ll be creating is a PNG image sequence. Before exporting, create a folder for the sequential images. When you import into Avid, check the “invert alpha” option as well as the “automatically detect sequential files”. Highlight the first file in the sequence and Avid will create a video clip from the sequence.

I’m not sure how to answer your anamorphic question.

Avid’s titler can certainly handle this. Create the background and the text on two separate layers to allow you to dissolve the background out and leave the text. If you must work in Flash make sure your stage is 720×480. Export a PNG sequence instead of a movie (my opinion, I’ve had issues with movies). Then do your masking in the Avid to match your 16×9 letterbox.

Interesting. Your serial # should be printed on the tag attached to your dongle.
