Has anyone found a way to change the frame that is displayed in the timeline when the “Clip Frame” option is on?

It is handy when I’m color correcting, but if I have a dissolve at the beginning of a clip, I get a semi-dissolved frame instead of a frame from, say, three seconds in where I can see what is going on.

I’ve tried the commands that change the display frame in the bin frame view with no luck. Any ideas?

You can’t change them. It’s the head frame for every segment that’s shown, and if that segment has a dissolve or other transition it will show that.

You can always put a Frame track into your sequence (look under the Fast Menu of your timeline), which will show representative frames of your media–the more you’re zoomed in the more you see.

Actually you can change them. If you switch to frame view and hit the space bar the icon will update as the video plays. You can also hit “end” to use the last frame. Another poster suggested you can use the advance/rewind frame keys to set the icon, but I’ve never had any luck with that.

That’s for changing the representative frame in the Bin. It doesn’t affect the clip frame shown in the timeline when you turn clipframes on. That’s entirely dependent on the head frame of the segment in your timeline.

If you capture a ten minute tape as one chunck and your bin displays the frame at the 1 minute marker, but you cut in a piece from the 7 minute marker you don’t want the 1 minute frame shown in your sequence. You want the frame from minute 7, because that’s what’s actually in your sequence.

Otherwise you’re absolutely right–you can change the frames shown in your bin in frame mode, and you can mark In and Out on them too.

Totally right… I missed the “timeline” factor. It’s what I get for playing Help Desk right before going home!
