Assuming you’re using it for print, I would save an uncompressed tiff or a PSD.

If you don’t have big money harddrives and DVDs are about all that’s available. We shoot P2 and archive with a Quantum LTO-3 (400 G/tape) tape drive which costs as much or slightly more than the camera. But we’ve had some issues with harddrives.

Yep, it’s that bad. I don’t entirely agree with John’s view that “we” let it happen. But simple economics have forced us here. Also, shooters/editors who sold themselves based on the price of their equipment and overhead have played a large role. Client mentality is now that 4-digit cameras should equal 3-digit productions.
And not to be ageist, but a lot of hungry young shooters have entered the fold with the price of gear being lower. Sometimes their talent outweighs their business acumen. OK, it’s not always an age issue, but many of us who have been around for more than a decade may understand the sentiment. The hard part is that there’s no easy way back to reality other than to continue to sell your clients on whatever “value adds” you have over the lesser-priced competition.

Import problems are covered pretty heavily here and on Avid’s own forums, but in general:
1-Make sure only ONE bin and NO sequences are open.
2-Make sure you point to the top level folder holding your P2 media. In other words you should see “CONTENTS” folder after you select.

If I understand correctly, you should be able to connect your camera’s S-Vid out to the external monitor, instead of the computer’s S-Vid out. This should free your laptop’s LCD.

Rap = Conflict and Politics.
I won’t make assumptions about your knowledge of rap. But if it’s limited to 50 Cent, Snoop Dog and any of the other “commercially” successful artists, I would try to learn more about the history and fascination with this genre. The video may be edited but I’m not quite convinced that the story is built at all.

Interesting perspective. Many people consider your annoyance at multitrack clip handling to be a good feature. The nondestructive nature gives you some options should you decide you need to reverse some of the changes you made to the individual slice.
I too hope they update Audition. But since it’s not part of their ubersuite I’m not particular hopeful about timely updates to the product.

You’ll get as many different responses to this as there are COW readers. But the Yamaha MG line seems to be solid. We use the older line and I’ve been happy with it.

Totally right… I missed the “timeline” factor. It’s what I get for playing Help Desk right before going home!
