Hello all, I am having a bit of an issue. I have an avid Media composer and I am trying to hook a DSR1800 to it. I am running SDI to the Avid Break out box and also running time code xrl to bnc to the box. I then have a rs422 cable running from the deck to the com 1 port on my HP computer. However when I fire up the Avid and try to control the deck it tells me the com port is being used about another application. Any one got any ideas???

Are you using an interface like the Rosetta Stone between the Adrenaline and computer port? Computers use RS232 protocol. You’ll have to adapt it to use it for machine control.

who is your dealer ? Who sold you this system.

    You need this –
    https://www.addenda-elect.com/rs28.htm

If you DARE say “gee, I don’t want to spend $98 to do this, isn’t there something cheaper”, I will fly to your location, and give you a special Christmas present.

AVID used to sell this product with the PC Media Composer, but now they use DATA-Mate, which is the EXACT Same Product.

Addenda used to have the “Hall of Shame” on their website, but they took it down. This showed the circuit board of the DataMate next to the Addenda RS 2/8 – it’s the exact same thing.

Anytime you connect or disconnect a device in Avid, it’ll get fussy till you delete all decksd and remount in deck prefrences.

Hey Bob, No reason to fly I’m here in Orlando, you did the engineering at the place I use to work. Anyway thanks for the info. They got the system from PEI however the system has been sitting there for a while so I don’t know if they got the device when they bought it or not. I will check. I hope you’re doing well.
