Also, you can simply copy the time altered render files and reinserting them into your timeline. Select the clip in the timeline and export it. Or find the render file and import it to your Browser so it becomes part of the project at the Bin level.

First, repair permissions on your system drive.
Then, start from your OS10 install disk and run Disk Utility.
DO NOT RUN ANY OTHER DRIVE, DIRECTORY or SYSTEM MAINTENANCE APPS YET.Post back.

You mean when you launched the project you weren’t asked to find the render files? That’s odd. There are so many things that can prevent FCP from finding files. You sort of try one thing after another. Try this first: Make sure the prefs are set to find you new render file scratch disk.

Our DSR45 works fine with FCP5/Tiger on our older G4s.

UPDATE AT YOUR PERIL.
The discussion has been going on since May, the results are mixed.
There are no secret pathways, not arcane hardware specs.
We have no problems with our PS files so I don’t follow those threads. Dunno what that issue is all about. There are many others. If you have already purchased the updates, you’re wasting your money not installing them. If you haven’t bought them, you can wait another year if you want to but then you’ll be asking whether you should wait till OS10.6 and FCP7 are a good combination.
Back up your existing system to a clone (heck, do it twice) and know how to revert to the clone if the tiger/5 upgrades don’t work out for you.

Hard to tell from your post what you’re doing.
The imported clip may or may not have in and out points on it.bogiesan

You can certainly reformat the drive but you will destroy all data, of course.
Open Disk Utility, erase, Mac OS 10 extended, journaling off.If you have the time, I would do the full erasure that writes zeros to the drive blocks. Takes several hours but completely neutralizes the drive. Deemed unnecessary in most situations.

Journaling appears to be serious overhead on non-system drives that can possibly interfere with video capture and playback. However, DV isn’t all that intensive and most of the heavy lifting is done by the CPU so a bit of drive overhead shouldn’t matter..
I’ve formated DV-only Firewire media drives with and without journaling enabled. I see no performance difference but I also see no value in maintaining the journal files.
There might be a difference for other formats and codecs or for internal SATA drives. Dunno.google “osx journaling” for many hours of inconclusively boring reading. Comes down to personal choice, I think.

Welcome to the family. You won’t like FCP for a few months. You’ll hate it. Some of the Avid switchers still hate FCP but I think you’ll find most have adapted well.
I’ve never used Avid products but I switched from Media 100 where up-rezing was an elegant one-button process. I still wonder why Media Manager is such a disaster.
Most of us figure out how to get our jobs done without using Media Manager.I hope your experience with FCP becomes more enjoyable as you gain some trust.
