Time to check in and see what the latest word is on FCP 5.0 and Tiger is ? Are there any major problems still unsolved at this point ? How about still image jpg. imports from Photoshop ? We are just working with NTSC DV footage at the moment … no Kona boards involved. Should we go ahead and go for the updates or stay with Panther and version 4.5 for now. thanks.

Actually, I’m kind of liking the FCP 5 / Panther combo, myself. Had to upgrade to QT 7, but it all seems pretty solid for now. Just now getting into the Multicam features on a complex project. So, maybe that project will be telling of any shortcomings.

    UPDATE AT YOUR PERIL.
The discussion has been going on since May, the results are mixed.
There are no secret pathways, not arcane hardware specs.
We have no problems with our PS files so I don’t follow those threads. Dunno what that issue is all about. There are many others.

If you have already purchased the updates, you’re wasting your money not installing them. If you haven’t bought them, you can wait another year if you want to but then you’ll be asking whether you should wait till OS10.6 and FCP7 are a good combination.

Back up your existing system to a clone (heck, do it twice) and know how to revert to the clone if the tiger/5 upgrades don’t work out for you.

If you have a compelling reason to upgrade, FCP 5.0.2 is really quite stable if you’ve performed a clean install. By that I mean an erase and install of Tiger, update it, then install FCP 5 and update it… I started by using a separate disk drive from my Panther, FCP 4.5 system. (keeping it intact – just in case…) Each FCP 4.x and 3.x project file I’ve opened was from a copy not the original etc… I haven’t touched the Panther system now in quite a while…

FCP 5 and Tiger have been remarkably smooth and stable here since install. I went the full clean install route by erasing my harddrive and starting from scratch with Tiger. OS and FCP updates installed smoothly and operation is still smooth. FCP 5 / Tiger is quite snappy.

I’m still having problems when I put a drop shadow on graphics or text. Definitely messes with the fields. The 5.02 upgrade has helped a lot but I’ve just encountered the problem again when adding a drop shadow to some still pics.
