I always us external hard drives to edit with. I recently recieved a drive from a co worker of mine, that had the status of “read only” I am using a G5 mac…and am having a lot of trouble figuring out how to change the status to read and write….I have right clicked and tried changing it through the “get info” menu with no luck.. One thing I notice is that next to Format..it says Windows NT file system. Any suggestions? How can I format it?

You can certainly reformat the drive but you will destroy all data, of course.
Open Disk Utility, erase, Mac OS 10 extended, journaling off.

If you have the time, I would do the full erasure that writes zeros to the drive blocks. Takes several hours but completely neutralizes the drive. Deemed unnecessary in most situations.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”
