In hopes of gaining some insight for my engineer, I’m requesting help with one of our Sony DSR-45 decks. I’m confident it is not a software problem, but a problem with the deck. Maybe someone has had similar problems?

Whenever this deck is connected to any of our G5 computers via a firewire cable, any firewire drive also connected to the computer becomes unresponsive. We even get the “you’ve disconnected your firewire drive incorrectly” error box.

The other problem which also occurs is that Final Cut HD will not recognize the DSR-45 as being connected. So, no video in or out thru this deck.

We have other decks which work properly. We have changed cables. We have changed computers. So essentially, it seems the deck has a problem.

Our engineer changed the Firewire Board in the DSR-45, but the same problem persists. So has anyone else had this problem and found successful resolution?

    Thank you.

Our DSR45 works fine with FCP5/Tiger on our older G4s.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

I’d think it’s time to have the machine looked at by a Sony authorized repair facility…

In response to the previous posts:

    1) I’m not certain that this is a software problem. We have other DSR-45 decks that work fine with my system. It would be interesting to see if this software fix would help this specific deck. Might give it a try.

    2) Our engineer is a former Sony bench engineer….so he’s as perplexed as we are.

    Thanks for your insight….geof.
