The best unit is not in your budget so you are going to make do with what you can afford. Light it very carefully, give yourself lots of separation and you really want to use a backlight. Green seems to work better in DV but that’s not universally true and I’ve never used the camera you are getting. Your chromakey filter is going to affect your decision so, if you can, visit the Web site of the publisher of your filter package and snoop around for color advice. There are probably several chromakey tutorials here on the cow.

Consider that you do not need to cover the entire frame with green or blue, just be sure you can cover the talent. You can always use a garbage matte to pull in the edges.

Are you doing just FCP5 or the Studio? If Studio, talk to a VAR, your post implies you shouldn’t try to build it yourself. You’ll need RAM, 2 drives and an upgraded graphics card for Motion.

I’ll add that you pick your end product and there’s no reason to ever create higher definition than that.

I think you will find that many people have this issue. Seems to be specific to certain machine/OS/FCP combinations. For one reason or another, that pref setting is ignored. I’ve not seen any helpful suggestions.

When you get a chance, I’d recapture the problem file. Carefully assign and check the in and out points and batch capture it.

I doubt Snitch could bring down your system but unplug your network connection and disable everything that isn’t associated with the project.

If the kernel panic crashes continue, start with permission repairs. You can also harmelssy reset the PMU switch (I don’t think this helps at the kernel level but it doesn’t hurt anything) Then start non-destructive system testing and disk repair from your OS install disks. You also should have received a hardware diagnostics disk with your Mac. Run it.

Wish I had better news or more to offer. The good news is that the possibilities are binary, black and white: It’s either something pesky and harmless that is easily fixed or it’s seriously weird, beyond your imagination, and you need a new motherboard.

Kernel panics are not minor glitches and they’re not random. They indicate serious weirdness with a file structure or with hardware. Debugging them is nearly impossible but you can start by trying to isolate the problem segment of your total sequence and seeing if that causes the crashes.

Read back over your post, too, a couple contradictory statements.
