I’m going to buy an apple G5 to install FCP on. As I’m going to buy a DVX-100A camera, I’ve been advised to get a pansonic deck (for compatibility). My question here is: is the panasonic deck a good compatibility for the G5? What DV deck (with mastering capability) works best with the G5 and the DVX-100A?
    Thanks,
    MH

There’s nothing about the G5 that matters, it’s just a FW connection to your deck.
Get the best Panasonic DV deck you can afford.

Are you doing just FCP5 or the Studio? If Studio, talk to a VAR, your post implies you shouldn’t try to build it yourself. You’ll need RAM, 2 drives and an upgraded graphics card for Motion.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

I am doing studio (including DVD). Please clarify what VAR is. Thanks.

Value Added Reseller. Promax is one, they will always take caree of you.

FWIW I have a Panny DVX100 and a Sony DSR 11 deck and a JVC BR600 and the tapes from the Panny work just fine with both of them.

I’m about to embark on the same adventure and just wondering what graphics card you recommend? I’m planning on getting the NVIDIA GeForce 6800 GT DDL w/256 MB SDRAM. Would this be a good choice?

    Richard,

Assuming you’re getting a G5 the card that comes in it (5800 I think?) seems more than adequate. Even for Motion.

You do have some options on the G5 and that was what I was wondering about.
