You cannot assume ANYTHING with Media Manager, perhaps the must dissed non-feature of FCP. I strongly urge you to experiment on non-critical footage. Make another project using copies of of your lorez, add a couple of dissolves or supers. Render. Initiate Media Manager and see if what you get is what you want.

By pushing the wrong buttons, there is nothing that can destroy your work faster than Media Manager.

Solved with a total reformat and reinstall.

Three days of screwing around before we just bit the big one and did the erase.

Unfortunately, there’s no definitive way to diagnose form where I’m sitting. This stuff usually has gut feelings associated, you play with the same machine long enough to get a feel for how it performs and what noises it makes, ya know?

That Carbon Copy was freezing is bad, really bad, since it works at the most fundamental file structure level, bit for bit.

You can spend weeks getting absolutely no where or you can bit it and use the Scorched Earth Process:
1. Use Disk Utility to create a Disk Image of your system drive to a new external drive. Go buy one if you need to.
2. Completely erase and reformat your drive. use TechTool or one of the advanced utility suites to completely reformat and test the drive. Takes many hours.
3. Reinstall Tiger and use the Migration Assistant to bring back your stuff form the FW drive.
4. Run all OS updates.

Sorry not to be more help. I’ve battled with this a couple of times over the last few months, testing, rebuilding, screwing around for days. We always end up just biting it and Scorching the Earth. Last time we skipped all the testing and trying to reconstruct a bad drive and just did the Big Bite.

There will be slight differences in the drives supplied with the computers. Might not be issues at all, dunno. I’d put the old drive in the new computer’s second slot and copy then remove the drive and replace it with a new one.

But the Apple migration assistant is a no-brainer and flawlessly brings over about 98% of your stuff form the previous machine. It’s very cool.

Looping is a setting of most players, not usually a flag you can set in the file. I see a way to do that in WMP for Mac, Play>Repeat, so there should be a way to do it in WMP. Or you might be able to set a flag inside WMP Encoder, free for the PC from Microsoft.

You can scrub ’em but not on a monitor. Umm, haven’t tried this in 5, maybe they broke it. But what’s wrong with loading the clip into the Viewer?
Bigger thumbs? Get a bigger monitor?
Get in line, buddy. My list of stuff to fix in FCP6 is longer, bigger and much more interesting than your list. My list is a babe magnet.
