Just thought I’d weigh in on the issue although you may have already decided. P2 cards are the way to go. Get as large as you can afford. Hire a GOOD DIT who will be working full time transferring the data to either a Raid 1 system or 2 separate hard drives. It may be a little more money this way but doing it right is cheaper than a reshoot.

Michael has a good point. Try to borrow another camera as well and try it. That way you can isolate the problem.

It could be the port on the camera. I’ve worked with folks who have had that go bad before. It sounds like the cables and the port on the Firestore should be okay from what you have said. Best of luck.

It’s great to hear the experiences of other users. Thought I would chime in here as well. In general I’ve had great luck with mine although it has its quirks. I find that rebooting the MacBook Pro seems to be the best solution. Then I can download card after card. If I pull out the adapter it sometimes needs a reboot. It has been rock solid in terms of reading the data correctly though and it is pretty fast.

Jeremy is right. Consequently the P2 store will only hold one 32 GB card. They are only useful anymore for a few 16 GB cards or as a USB reader.

It’s in the File menu under Log and Transfer. We all went through the same thing when we upgraded.

I’m not quite sure why this happens in FCP 6 but I’ve had the same issue transferring long takes. I think it’s a software bug or something. Try grabbing them in segments around 10 minutes long and making the out point the new in point for the next clip. When you string them together they should play fine. That’s the work around for the time being. I’m sure someone else with a little more knowledge can explain why it’s doing this. If I recall, the earlier version of FCP did not have this issue.

There is always the option to use an old P2 store as a USB option. You should be able to pick one up for cheap. I’ve had good luck with the Duel Adapter but Shane’s suggestion of a G4 Powerbook is excellent as well. Keep it as a dedicated machine for the field.

I’m assuming you are asking for the LA area. I would recommend The Video Clinic (310) 393-5259. I’ve had both of my cameras in there at one point and have happy with the quality, speed and cost of the work.

Sorry Pascal. Other than some of the data somehow having become corrupted I don’t have any answers. I feel your pain. Best of luck. Let us know if you get it solved as well as how you did it.
