HVX200 & FS100 issues please help……
Hello guys,
I need help here big time, i have been using the hvx200 and fs100 for the past few months been really good to except for a few external 1394 dissconnect issues and the firewire port on the hvx200 going out. But i have had that replaced as well. Few weeks ago i shot a liitle piece for this magazine and was good to go importing the footage and everything. 2days after i had a music video shoot, for which i had reformatted the drive and went out just to have the external 1394disconnect shot up, and i tried everything that i could have to fix it, to no avail and had to resort shooting on dv tapes. I came back and sent in the fs100 to get fixed thinking it was the weak firewire port. They replaced it and sent it back, and it still didn’t work, so i sent it back to them and they sent me a brand new unit. So i’m sitting here with this brand new unit, and did all my settings and gave it a shot and it worked. So i turned off both the units and restarted them again to make sure it;s good to go, and it’s giving me the same external 1394 disconnect. I have tried over and over again to play with the settings on the camera and also did a reset on the camera to make sure there wasn’t something that was blcoking the connection from working. 2hrs later it’s still doing the same thing. I have tried 3 different firewire cables so i know its not the cables. It worked on me momentarely so i’m quite sure it’s not the connections. Can anyone think of anything here that i could do, that i may be missing. Please help i have a shoot tomorrow and want to get this operational again.

Why not take the time to tell us step by step what you are doing.

well i have basically gone over all the settings over and over again on the fs100 and the hvx200, and tried to record and it keeps on coming up as external 1394 disconnect. I mean i have used this thing for months now without any issues with the same settings, so not to sure where to even begin???

It could be the port on the camera. I’ve worked with folks who have had that go bad before. It sounds like the cables and the port on the Firestore should be okay from what you have said. Best of luck.

that is not specific, step by step, what you have done. Trouble shooting requires you to stop, think, and then proceed slowly taking notes of what you are doing.
Have you tired another cable?
Does that cable work between the camera and the computer? If it does it is not the cable nor the FW port of the camera.If you can get a hold of another FS and can get that working you have a bad FS or port on the FS.

Michael has a good point. Try to borrow another camera as well and try it. That way you can isolate the problem.
