How long are the shots? If the camera was rolling longer than roughly 11 minutes (or 4 GB) at a time this may be causing the problem. FCP 6.0.5 seems to have trouble capturing long clips.

The short answer would be to grab section of the clip about 10 minutes long and import them.

Use the out of the previous clip as the in for the next clip.

When you string them together in the timeline they will play fine

Like Jeremy says, if they are QT movies it sounds like he already captured the clips and they are ready to be brought into the FCP project. You would not use the Log & Transfer feature for this. Of equal concern… Where are the master files? I would be sure to get those from him as well.

If he has given you the master files and simply ommited the lastclip.txt file then you need to do as Noah suggests and use Raylight to convert them.

When you have the P2 card in the Duel Adapter and load up FCP and Log and Transfer, it automatically reads the P2 Card data. It is very fast since it is using the express port. When you transfer the data to an Ext HD and load it into Log and Transfer it will take a little longer since it is limited to the interface speed. I.E. USB 2, FW 400, etc. You could also have a slow HD (5200 RPM) which would slow it down as well. I make it a habit of doing the following:

    1. Transfer the data from the P2 card via the Duel Adapter to a Raid 1 system (7200 RPM minimum)

    2. Eject the P2 card

    3. Load the data in FCP Log and transfer from the Ext HD to make sure it reads okay.

    4. Reformat the P2 card and continue shooting.

My rule is to make sure the data is in at least 2 places before blitzing the P2 card. The Raid 1 does this. Sometimes I will also dump it to a 3rd place (Media Drive for the editor) before blitzing.

    Best of luck

    Here are the steps:

Menu Button – 5. Recording Setup – TC Preset / Yes – Set each camera to the same time – Menu – Preset OK? / move to yes but do not select – Then press the set (right arrow) button on the remote while pointing remote toward front of each camera.

If the front tally light is on it will blink and you are good to go. Just check the TC on each camera to make sure it is running and generating the same TC. You are good to go for a couple of hours. If you change batteries or shut down the camera it’s a good idea to reset it. I also reset every couple of hours just to be safe.

You can start/stop the cameras with the remote also but I usually don’t. I just start them about the same time. I do like to have at least a visual slate in the frame when I start the cameras so I can easily ID the shot in the thumbnail in FCP.

    Best of luck!

I don’t know about syncing an HVX and a 100B but syncing two HVX’s does work. I do it all the time. Just to be clear you do not use the remote to start the cameras recording at the same time but rather to set the time code in free run at the same time so the time code generated by each camera independently is the same.

Noah’s suggestion is the best way. I have found it best however to re-sync every time you turn of the camera or change the battery as there has been some drift. I also recommend checking them if the cameras are plugged in and on for more than 2 hours as I have also seen a little drift. It’s pretty easy to sync them up in post especially if you you a traditional clapper slate just in case.

Drag the files into the trash.

While holding down the option key – Select “Empty Trash”

    They should all go away.

It doesn’t do anything if you hold down the option key while dragging them to the trash.

2 32 GB cards will shoot 170 Minutes in 720P/24PN which is in my opinion the most economical HD option in terms of image quality to Data size. I wouldn’t recommend shooting any format smaller than this otherwise you are not taking advantage of the features of this camera.

I agree with Jeremy. DO NOT delete the master P2 MXF files. If you do have them backed up and have the FCP QT files backed up, you can drag the files you want to delete to the trash and hold down the option key while emptying the trash.

I am partial to the Sans Digital. I buy the raid enclosure…

    The I use the trays…

    https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816111040

Then I buy a load of 750 SATA drives and label them A & B and away you go. I have three of these units and they have worked flawlessly for loads of data.

Sans Digital also sells a single drive reader so I can archive one of the drives and read the data off of the other one. They also make a raid 5 option that Newegg sells as well.

The reality is that any setup you choose will work as long as you have it set up as a raid 1 for redundant backup.

My rule is that the P2 data MUST reside in TWO places before I reformat the card. The raid 1 does that.

I also recommend Shotput P2 for dumping the data from the card to the drives.

    Best of luck
