March 13, 2009 at 11:20 pmUSB? There is the 5 card reader from Panasonic…then the P2 Gear. Then the Dual Systems adapter for MacBook Pros. Then for the towers there are internally installed PCIe PCMCIA adapters. Nothing else really. I use my old Powerbook G4.

I am trying to jump into a P2 workflow, and have a Powerbook G4 to transfer to. What software are you using? It doesn’t look like the CMS software is Power PC compatible. Do I need to get Shot Put Pro? -

March 14, 2009 at 6:40 amOn my Powerbook G4 I use Shotput P2, the predecessor to Shotput Pro. Pro is compatible with your Powerbook…and is great.

March 14, 2009 at 5:53 pmThere is always the option to use an old P2 store as a USB option. You should be able to pick one up for cheap. I’ve had good luck with the Duel Adapter but Shane’s suggestion of a G4 Powerbook is excellent as well. Keep it as a dedicated machine for the field.

March 14, 2009 at 11:06 pmWith the Duel and a FW800 I can get close to a 2GB/minute file transfer. I wish they would redesign that think with either a longer and more flexible cable or a right angle bend to it the length it is.

March 15, 2009 at 5:04 pmQuestion,
What benefits do you forsee switching from firestore to p2? To me it doesn’t make sense. you get more space with a DTE drive and you don’t have to cost of p2 Cards, you also have the ease of Direct editing if needed.
I’m just curios.

March 15, 2009 at 5:29 pmDurability. Card can handle extreme cold, extreme heat, and being dropped. And if you are walking around with the camera. The firestore is a hard drive, with moving parts, so heat, cold and jostling can affect it.
The firestore is good, but not for all situations. Just as P2 cards aren’t right for all situations.

April 3, 2009 at 10:13 pmThe Powerbook G4 has a built in PCMCIA slot…the type that takes the P2 cards. All you need is the P2 driver software and you are good to go.
