You are connecting with a fire wire right? Capture setings = HDV right? Make sure your camera is not set to down convert to DV.
Can Windows movie Maker see the camera? If your running Windows 7 64 bit, you need to switch your IEEE-1394 drivers to the older Legacey drivers, and it should see it then. Hoe this helps, Danny Hays -
Set your project settings to Progressive, deinterlace type, blend, for fast moving video or Interpolate for slowere video. Also render to Progressive. Let us know your results, Danny Hays

I just started using the Intensity shuttle, can use it as a secondary monitor as well. With DV and M2T files I don’t get 30 fps but it’s at least 15.I have an I7 930 chiip, 6 gig ram. Vegas is a CPU based program and any video cards with GPU won’t help with your preview. I switch to Preview auto and the preview is smooth, enough for me. With your computer, you must be editing with AVCHD or MP4 or something very compressed if your not getting results like mine. What form are you using?

I have a monitor and a HDTV connected to my PC.I test it on both, since most people will be watching it on a HDTV in the end.

If the time stamp is not in the video itself, I think you would need to add it as overlay text. I may be wrong though,,

In the preview window, drop the quality down to Preview Auto, this will give you for frames per second and it’s still pretty clear.

There have many forum threads warning against installing codec packs. I would uninstall or restore to before you installed. H.264 is highly compressed and hard to edit with any NLE. I would convert the files to avi and edit that. Here’s a link to a free converter.

HDV may not be a great format to key, but I’v been able to get good keys with Keylight in AE and Ultra key can get a decent key from almost anything. Your lighting has to be done right though, even greenscren lighting, as much space as you can get between the subject and the screen to reduce spill and good back lighting, maybe the most important, in my opinion. Neoscene is a good intermediate format to key with. Hope this helps, Danny Hays

If I drop a 1080p file on the timeline or in my project media tab, click on it, it says 1080p at the bottom if the project media window. Try this free utility which will tell you most everything about a video clip. It’s called Gspot. here’s the link to download it. It will tell you if your clips are 1080p or not.
