  • Rendering problem regarding the dreaded “horizontal lines”

Posted by Frank Stapleton on August 2, 2010 at 6:13 pm

Hi there, I’m a first time poster and I’ve heard this is the place for solutions to any problem.

The problem I’m having is occurring while trying to render a video for YouTube.

I’m using a video capture device (a Hava if it makes a difference) to record gameplay from my Xbox 360, and then editing it in Sony Vegas. There are no problems from the raw capture file or the preview window in Vegas, but as soon as I’ve rendered the video, all of these horizontal lines plague the screen.

I’ve been told that it is a problem with resampling clips, so I’ve disabled all sampling, re-rendered, but the problem was still there.

In my video properties, I’ve got the Field order to the “None (progressive scan) option (I’ve heard this is also a way to fix it) but the problem remains.

    Any ideas from anyone?

Set your project settings to Progressive, deinterlace type, blend, for fast moving video or Interpolate for slowere video. Also render to Progressive. Let us know your results, Danny Hays

‘Interpolate fields’ for the deinterlace type in the project properties worked pretty nicely! I certainly do appreciate the help and super-quick at that!

Hold Alt key and press Enter. You’ll see the Project Settings window. Set field order to None (progressive scan). Set Deinterlace Method to Interpolate fields. Then when you’re done editing your project, click File, Render as, choose what format you want and click Customize. Set field order to None (progressive scan).

That’s because you’re rendering your project as Windows Media Video. That is not the best format for YouTube either. I get good results using the “Main Concept AVC/AAC template. I gather you are using an HDV camera and video files since your current settings are 1440 x 1080 and pixel aspect ratio is 1.333. Set your render as settings to what I have in this picture and see if you like the results. You can select Progressive with it. Danny
