I need to extract the timestamp from several different types of video files, and it is my understanding that Vegas can do that. I experimented with the Vegas 9 trial edition, but I couldn’t get time stamp to come out. Is there a different edition that will work? I need the date as well. Any help would be great.

If the time stamp is not in the video itself, I think you would need to add it as overlay text. I may be wrong though,,

I’m pretty new to this. Would that be another video track that has nothing except the time stamp? How would I do that?

You could also take a look at “DVDate” and “DVMP Pro” which are external programs that can overlay the date and time on the video frames. DVDate works for DV format only but is free. DVMP Pro works for DV, HDV, AVCHD, Sony HDD and MOD.
