I’ve had fine luck with doing the text layout in Illustrator, importing the file into AE, and doing the two keyframe thing. 2 things to watch out for is add a small amountg of vertical blur (gaussian in Y only or directional set to vertical) and set this to 1 to 2 pixels. The other is trying different fonts. Some work better than others. Capital ‘E’ s will give you a little grief but it seems they do in all movie credits. And of cousre check your work using component, s-video, or sdi. As Composite signals will give you all kinds of horrible artifacts.
Out of curiosity, why at 24fps? Why not 30 (29.97)? Is it for theatrical release on a print?

Hey Zack, I would be a little wary of looking for classes that teach a specific program. AE is cool and widely used, but you really want to learn the craft of graphics, editing, etc. Learning a program can be done with the manual, some trial and error and help from your friends at The Cow. It’s like wanting to be an architect and looking for classes in a CAD program. Doesn’t make you an architect.
I would narrow your focus to what it is you want to learn. Motion graphics and design? Editing? On set production? Photography/DP’ing?
Some of my friends went to Art Intitutes. Don’t know that it taught them a whole lot. I think the first few years are good to get you interested in what it is you want to pursue but then it really needs to be a focused thing for you from there in a specific field.

They improved the tracker a bit in ver 6 but it is still incredibly subpar compared to other trackers like in Commotion. I still dig up Commotion which has been left for dead for years now to do a track. Hopefully with the buy outs that Adobe has been doing there will be much better roto/tracking in AE7.

Add a gaussian blur with only the Y direction blurred a touch. Keyframe this to smooth in and out along with the pan move. You can also try the directional blur set to vertical.

To be frank I think this piece represents the work of a small news affiliate. Not quite major market graphics but good for a small to medium town graphics package. It is less of the ‘hip’ graphics like a Shilo but more like the shiny, red, blue, purple, gold look that the news stations can’t stay away from.

I assume you have one comp nested inside another comp. Open the attributes for the comp layer and there should be the anchor point parameter. adjust it and you should see an anchor move.

Is the Fractal layer set to 3D? IS the evolution changing in the fractal noise? Does the same effect happen with a video clip or still picture?

It should have made a seperate AE folder so you may need to move them over. Another note is that on your installer disc is the cycore installer. Install these and you may find that most if not all your FE effects are the same as the CC plugs.

I have no idea how that was done. We do the shoot through dailies. Then from then on, the agency does all post and final transfer back in NYC. It’s a nice graphic. Maybe I can email the producer to see if she remembers who did the the effects on it.
