I have these multiple circles, 45 layers or so, all parented by a null layer. I would like to reduce them to start to fit a pattern of a dress which is made up of all these circles. Reducing them is no problem, but I would like to apply a warp to the null layer, so all these 45 layers when reduce conform to the shape of the dress. The effects to the null layer aren’t working.
Can you apply effects like this a null layer? Does anybody know how I can make this work?
    Thanks

You will have to pre-compose the dot/null layers then apply the effect to the pre-comp itself.

Set an adjustment layer as the top layer of the comp and apply the warp effect to that. All layers below the adjustment layer will be effected. If you have layers below you DON’T want to warp, then pre-comp all of the layers you do want to warp and apply your effect to the pre-comp.

Atleast that’s how I’d do it–I’ve never tried to put an effect on a null, but I don’t think it would work….

chris – I took a look at your reel, I really like the “red tag event” graphic where all the tags flipped. How was that set up? I would like to do something similar but with rows and rows of dots growing and moving, to cover up an old picture and revealing a new one

I have no idea how that was done. We do the shoot through dailies. Then from then on, the agency does all post and final transfer back in NYC. It’s a nice graphic. Maybe I can email the producer to see if she remembers who did the the effects on it.

I guess this was done using the Card Dance plug in.
