I think he means what Wayne Isham abused a few years ago in all his videos like “Welcome to Miami”. They are simple morphs between the shots. Just take any edit cut and using the morph tools decide what you want to morph to what. For example if Will Smith is in one part of the frame in one shot then in a simialr but different part in the next shot, connect his eyes to eyes, nose to nose, etc. So it’s a smooth looking morph.

As my feedback I was estimating where I thought your niche is based on this work. That niche should you do more work like this I think is in small market news stations. If you like doing this kind of look, news stations all over the US at least do this work for all their broadcasts and specials.
For example when you see the teasers for their evening news, usually something to the effect of, “If you take showers, you could be risking the lives of you and your family, tonight at 10”. They usually have some flashy looking thing to go along with that. Your work reminds me of that kind of material.

Since your video is really 60 half frames every second, to make an entire frame it will have to blend 2 fields together into one frame. If you do this without interpolation, you get a nasty image. Magic Bullet does interpolation so that the image doesn’t look so bad. Pulling out frames isn’t a problem, you could really do this with simple tools. It’s the creation of whole frames out of fields that is the challenge.

In “Death Becomes Her” They did a similar thing. They shot the actress in the environment, removed her, shot a clean plate. Then just create a circle like mask where you want the hole. Track that circle to follow along with the actor. Put the plate underneath the actor layer with the hole. So now you are seeing through them. However this doesn’t look right because there is no depth to the hole. In the movie they painted (or you can create in 3D) a bit of depth. So it looks like you see a bit of the actor’s innards. Then track this over the hole.
It’s the same as if you were standing next to a big pipe and looking down the middle of it. Because of perspective you will see the sides. So the trick to this effect isn’t the illusion of seeing through them, but the illusion of the hole with depth.

I have to admit since we got this Avid DS, I’m really down on FCP for that same reason. The Avid is gauranteed as an entire package. It works beautifully and reliably. My FCP station still gives me grief at every turn. Whether it’s the Decklink, Quicktime, FCP, or the G5 itself. Frustrating. It’s never a major issue, it’s just always something that gets in the way of a good flow.

I have not done a text roll with the text tool, but it should work just fine. It just may be a bit harder to lay out nice than to do it in Illustrator.
My advice on the 24 thing is make it easy on yourself and do it in 29.97 for the digibeta. If he redoes the film at HD or film res, you’ll have to re-render anyways. Might as well make the credits easier to deal with.

I have to admit though I used Macs most of my life and still love them for what I use my laptop for (email, browsing, writing treatments). However for real work, I’ve always used whatever the latest greatest Mac Hardware. But a while ago I built a custom PC for gaming, then we bought an Avid DS which is XP based. Even though I think Windows is a turd of an OS, the hardware options and moddability have really got me hooked. Really fast boxes for half of what the same Apple boxes are. When I built my gaming PC I made a box as fast as an AlienWare box for almost half the cost. As I noted to myself that with AlienWare you are paying quite a premium for it’s style I realised a Mac is no different.
So I’ll keep dreaming that OSX will run on any PC hardware and have the best of both worlds 🙂
But in the end, a tool is a tool. But a pleasant OS on cheap modifiable hardware is always sweet to have around.
Yay AE7! If there isn’t a real color corrector, good trackers, and good roto tools, i’m gonna freak!

Create a material. In the color channel import the tif.
Create a Background object. Assign your material to it.

If nothing else, you can always duplicate your layer, do whatever you wish to that duplicate and just keyframe the opacity up or down.
But like someone previously stated, to me the most obvious is to keyframe the Master Saturation parameter in the hue/sat effect.
