Hmmm,
I downloaded the demo too. There’s an FCP Quick Start guide which is quite good, I got it working great. Uprezed some anamorphic DV footage to 720 30p looks really good.

I have a Panasonic DMR-T3040 that works from the timeline, plus it has a 40 gig internal hard drive. It’s a great machine, but alas, I hardly use it anymore since DVD Studio Pro v.2. It has several choices for menus, as I recall it allows for 8 chapters.

Charlie is correct, but what a card, say a Kona LH will do is allow you to work with SD and HD footage in the future, also pretty nice to monitor After Effects if you use that.

My advice would be to read this article and do everything it says. See section 4 about the benefits of sending to Compressor directly from FCP as opposed to outputting a movie. Very good stuff here.

Also, check out Compressor’s preview window and what you can do with it and the filters in the inspector. Remove grain might help, and you can preview the relults.

That looping through the ref plug is a bogus workaround. You should get a blackburst generator.
