Huh? Daniel, I think you’re correct about the size issue, but a reference movie is not self-contained. It REFERS back to your FCP project.

    Steve,

Yes, sort of, you go to reconnect media and then check the select files manually box and you can get any file you want.

There’s also one in the Virtix set, which includes one for precicely this problem.

  • Dub,

“Matte’s” (how appropriate considering his suggestion) method is good, but you can also just nest the whole show when done and crop it in the motion tab. Both methods may require rendering, depending on your system and settings.

I have a LaCie Big Disk Extreme and it plays uncompressed 8bit just fine. Even a 20 minute show. But, someone correct me if I’m off base, in order to see the video in real time on an NTSC monitor you need some kind of video card like a Cinewave or Decklink, or an AJA io, no? My system runs a Decklink SP. But on my other system with no card and another Big Disk Extreme I can’t see uncompressed video on that monitor which is fed from a DSR 11 connected via FireWire 400.

    Otis,

Graeme’s filters rock, but for the record, depending on what kind of motion is in your piece, rendering with no fields can give you a different look in FCP, but you need to try it and see what you get.

    Tim,

Or no fields depending on the look you’re after.
