  • Problems with WIDESCREEN filter when using it on STILL IMAGES

Posted by Victor on April 5, 2005 at 9:38 am

I’m doing a short documentary for my class and I’m doing it in widescreen format. Though, when I apply the widescreen filter to my still images, which are animated-moving,panning,zooming,and etc, the widescreen bars are applied in proportion to the images ORIGINAL Size-NOT what I have scaled it down or up to on my timeline…

    how do I fix this?

As of right now I am just exporting my still image animations as a dv stream once they are ready, then applying the widescreen to the video of the images.

isnt there a better way to do this?

    THANKS IN ADVANCE

First, remove the Widescreen Filter from your stills, then:

    1. Create a new video track so that there is another track directly over your Stills.
    2. On the new video track, directly over any stills, edit in the “Slug”
    3. Add the “Mask Shape” filter only on the Slug.
    4. In the Mask Shape “Filter Tab” click the “Invert” setting.
    5. In the Mask Shape “Filter Tab” adjust the “Horizontal” setting fully-open wide.
    6. In the Mask Shape “Filter Tab” adjust the “Vertical” setting to exactly match the WideScreen black bars.

Now the images below the slug will be unaffected by the WideScreen Filter, but will still have the black bars at the top and bottom.

This method works for adding “Wide-screen” black bars to any kind of video without affecting the actual video tracks below the “Slug”.

    Dub,

“Matte’s” (how appropriate considering his suggestion) method is good, but you can also just nest the whole show when done and crop it in the motion tab. Both methods may require rendering, depending on your system and settings.
