How in FCP can I desaturate all chroma except one? I have a clip of a vintner holding a gloass of red wine. I want to lose all the color in the shot except for the red in the glass.

    Thanks

Go to this page in FCP Help:

    Volume III page 482
“Example: Using the Limit Effect Controls to Isolate a Specific Color Against Grayscale”

This gives step by step instructions to do what you want.

Along with the RTFM advice, do a search here on the Cow. There are tons of posts (and answers).
Try Pleasantville (you’ll find a lot of answers with that I bet) or “desaturate color” for starters.

if you are unfamiliar with using the “limit effect” controls and secondary color correction, you should go back to page 477.

This isnt intended as RTFM advice…its just that the manual explains it very well and I can’t do it any better.

    Cheers Bob

It actually wasnt that obvious that that might be in the manual. I just remembered it being there because I read it recently.

I just checked out the Ken Stone article Don suggested and its even better.

Bob — I did a little free tutorial on this effect. It kind of follows the KenStone technique… but with a few twists.

If you want to add another color, just add a chroma key on top of that layer and you’ll have multiple colors…

One tip I learned AFTER I did this podcast video was you don’t have to keep sellecting colors… you just click and drag the eyedropper around the color space you want to isolate and FCP will pick up all those color shades.

[CaptainMench] “you just click and drag the eyedropper around the color space you want to isolate and FCP will pick up all those color shades.”

That’s very good to know and is a huge tip. Thanks for posting that, Cap’n.

Just when I think I know stuff about things, Mench enlightens my crusty ways. Thanks man.
