    Shane,

I know you do long forms and so do I. I’m working on a 90min doc for broadcast. And I get the “Preparing Video for Display” when I trim on tracks under stills and b-roll in my sequence. When my sequence was short, maybe under 40 min, it was fine. But in my 90min fine cut sequence, it’s a bear to trim.

    Do you run into that?

I’m on a intel 8 core with 10gigs of RAM. I am also starting to believe that the codes are a bit long in the tooth.

December 27, 2008 at 5:05 am in reply to: Do you think Apple will ever update FCP’s UI?

I’d like to to take a few things from DVDSP and Motion:

The ability to move tabs left and right within a window.

A bit darker in color tone like Motion.

Port the keyframe editor from Motion into FCP.

I’d like to see an implementation of Dashboard or the HUD with FCP – saves a lot of double-clicking to load a clip into viewer.

A mini waveform inside the Viewer Video Tab – makes slicing interviews a lot easier!

But my personal #1 is STILL -UNDO HISTORY LIST!!!

  • I have the 5.1.2 update. If you’d like, I can upload it to you if you have a FTP.

    [John Davidson] “Hey Chin,

Not sure if you’ll be reading this post but you’ll be pleased to know that I broke down and got a mac pro this weekend. Just couldn’t wait anymore! Please feel free to lambast me for my smart-alecky response earlier :-).

Ha -no sweat. It’s a great machine – lots of horse power to plow thru any format. Make sure to stuff enough RAM in there.

    Have fun with it!

[John Davidson] “They haven’t been even marginally updated since January. In computer terms, isn’t 10 months the equivalent of about 10 years? I really can’t see purchasing a 10 month old computer for a brand new state-of-the-art price. “

You’re still on a G5 and you’re complaining that the 8 core Mac Pro isn’t good/fast/new enough for you? Don’t mean to be rude but what exactly is an 8 Core Mac Pro tower not able to offer you?

    Winston,

I’m sure you can get a mini display port to DVi adapter to connect to a tower.

October 14, 2008 at 8:16 pm in reply to: Feature Request! Viewer Audio Control!

Shane – the audio mixer is a good workaround. Good thinking. Like you, I’d prefer a better way to select which viewer channel to monitor.

I’d be way cool to see the waveform in the video tab as well – above the scrub bar! I currently rip the video tab away from the viewer so I can watch the video in one window and still see the waveform in another window. Thankfully, they both update in this configuration.

You can get a 400 to 800 adapter. I think having only one FW800 is a bigger hit than just the 800 port. Only one FW port is a bummer. And the Macbook doesn’t even have a FW port anymore – just two USB.
