Ok Shane,
I think the problem is your blur filter. I used the directional blur which is FxPlug and that didn’t work. I tried a speed change and that worked. And I tried the CC 3Way and that worked – and this is not a FXplug. I also tried a basic border and old gaussian blur – both worked – both not FXplug.
So I think that’s the issue – FXPlug won’t work, older filters and non FXPlug – render improvements…

Yes, what Jeremy said. Cuz your text has an alpha, that won’t work. But try a regular clip with a filter and turn off the lower tracks, not the higher track that contains the rendered clip.
So, Jeremy – is this a new behavior? Was this possible back in 6?

[Russell Lasson] “One thing I don’t like about Log and Transfer is that it only scales by a factor of 2. So depending on if you shot 4K 16:9 or 4K HD, you’ll end up with files that are either 2048 pixels wide or 1920 pixels wide. “
Russell,
The L&T window gives me a 2048 x 1024 frame – so in your opinion, what’s the problem with this 2048 x 1024 image?

“Chi-Ho Lee] “What if he had archival & stock at 29.97?”
[Jeremy Garchow]
Whenever I face this problem, I confrom the 29.97 sources to 23.98 via a variety of methods. What have you found to be the cheapest and acceptable quality?
[Chi-Ho Lee] “Rendering the 23.98 clips inside the 29.97 seq should add proper pulldown to his clips. ”
[Jeremy Garchow]
It should, but it doens’t. It adds 2224, instead of proper 3:2. and when working in a 720p timeline, there’s no 3:2 pulldown interlaced pulldown to be had due to the progressive timeline.
“I’m not sure about that. I don’t have the proper gear in front of me to test the pulldown. If it is indeed 2224, then it had changed because I remember testing it back in v5 and I was getting a 2:3 pulldown then.

[Shane Ross] “Greg Nosaty] “Could the problem be: the 720pn24 media being edited in a 29.97 timeline in FCP?”
Yes. Why did you do that? 720p 24PN is a 23.98 format. Why did you edit it in a 29.97 timeline?
“What if he had archival & stock at 29.97? He would have to edit his 23.98 sources along with 29.97 stock in a 29.97 sequence for a 29.97 master. Rendering the 23.98 clips inside the 29.97 seq should add proper pulldown to his clips.
Otherwise, he would have to convert his 29.97 stock to 23.98 which would not be so easy and more costly.
How would you deal with this situation otherwise?

Wouldn’t the IO HD bypass his G5 bottle neck if they really want to use ProRes? So it’s either money for the card and rent a raid fast enough or spend money for the IO HD and use his existing raid.
Where are you located? I’ll rent you my raid! : )

February 19, 2009 at 3:17 am in reply to: control surface for fcp 3-way cc or Color….without busting the bank..True – doesn’t work with Color yet…let’s hope it will soon!
But it should work with FCP and Chris seemed open to finding a control that will work with FCP if I read his post correctly.

The Caldigit is truly great but you’ll need the express34 adapter which costs extra so it’ll prob be over $1k. Look into Firmtek. They make a 2 bay esata box and bundle it with a 34 adapter.

I’ve been seriously considering the 20″ verite model but upon craig’ post, I’m not so sure. I don’t think there are any comparable 1080 monitors along that price range. The new panasonic 1760 has great reviews but not 1080 resolution (anyone thinks that it doesn’t matter?) and about $1000-$1500 more.
Can anyone recommend other 20″ models along the $3k line?
Thanks,
