[marrian cho] – ability to toggle between the source and canvas timelines like in the Avid,

    Q – toggle viewer/canvas

[marrian cho] and being able to cut in the clip rather than the nested clip without having to command-drag it into the sequence

    CMD F9, CMD F10

These three commands have been in FCP for many versions already.

There is 4:3 title safe markers in a 16×9 sequence. They’re small but they’re there.

Better keyframe editor indeed! Just port the one from Motion.

    Fix Ease In/Out.

    UNDO HISTORY LIST Please!!! It’s 2010 already and I can’t get a report on what I’m undo-ing!?!?!

Blu-ray with netflix streaming capabilities….all the way….the Apple TV may one day have netflix streaming as well, and hopefully DVR capabilities in the future but not today.

Today, Blu-ray with streaming is the better buy. And the PS3 ($299) is the best blu-ray player out there because they update their firmware much more frequently to add new features than any set top boxes.

October 30, 2009 at 6:56 pm in reply to: OT: End of Prosumer Camcorders???

[Dave LaRonde] “YOU take it out on a shoot with actors, dialogue, sync sound and follow focus….

    ….then tell me it’s not a toy. “

Again, same discouragements against early DV cameras like VX1000s and thousands of hours of programming were shot on those. I hear the same statements against FCP now on long term programming. “Can’t edit long form programming on FCP, media management not good enough.” How many thousands of hours have been edited on FCP?

And plenty of people have shot sync fictional shorts and features on these cameras. The trade magazines have printed plenty of articles from indie filmmakers using DSLR. Sure, there are limitations with DSLR….as there are limitations for beta, Varicam, HDcam, RED and even 35mm.

You won’t use them. Good for you. That’s your opinion. But it’s certainly arrogant, dismissive, and not conducive to the creative support that these forums are based on.

[Dave LaRonde] “It’s a TV toy.

Heard the same thing with miniDV and DVCam. “Not a real camera like Beta.”

Heard the same thing with FCP. “Not a real editor like Avid.”

The more things change, the more they stay the same…

October 26, 2009 at 3:53 pm in reply to: Update to FCS 3 – Big Problem

It is highly recommended to do a clean install for each major version of FCP. With that being said, I would not say it’s mandatory. I have been working on a machine for the past 6 weeks that was just upgraded from FCS 2 to 3 (10.5.8) without a clean install. And am currently working with a complex upgraded project file as well and everything has been going fine.

In your situation, have you done all the general troubleshooting steps? Trashed FCP prefs? A white screen can often be RGB setting flipped to Alpha. Have you checked those?

[Cornelius Henke] “I take my timeline out of unlimited (but it is already in safe), “

Actually, put it in Unlimited. Always have it in unlimited. Safe RT is an old setting and doesnt push your machine to its limits.

September 23, 2009 at 3:57 pm in reply to: FCP 7, gaps, markers bug

Tom, sorry, let me reframe the situation.

Create a seq with a series of clips. Place a seq marker on top of a clip. Delete that clip under the marker. You should notice that marker stays put and if there are markers down the timeline they will ripple up as expected. But the marker above the clip that was just selected stays put.

See if you can recreate that.

    Thanks,

[Rafael Amador] “The problem is that these Proress render files are discharged.
In the end you need to re-render everything again “

In the end? What do you mean in the end? When outputting to tape?

Turn on Render in Apple ProRes 422, under Sequence Settings>Render Control.

This will leave your footage as XDCam but render to ProRes codec thus giving you shorter render time.
